1. Select varieties
Common blueberry varieties include: lowbush blueberries and northern highbush blueberries suitable for colder areas in the north, and southern highbush blueberries suitable for warm temperate areas in the south. Among blueberries and rabbiteye blueberries, the northern highbush blueberry flavor and blueberry anthocyanin content are better than the other two types, and have the largest demand in the international market. The variety of blueberries should be selected according to the actual planting area.
1. Garden construction
①The slope of the chosen garden should be small. Because the blueberry root system is shallow, slender, and has no root hairs, it is best to choose an acidic and fertile garden with loose soil, good ventilation, moist but not waterlogged, and an organic matter content of not less than 5{bf}.
② After the garden land is selected, deep plowing should be carried out with green manure the year before the setting. The depth should be 20 to 25 centimeters. The land should be prepared after deep plowing and maturation. In addition, the soil that does not fully meet the requirements must be improved before planting to facilitate the growth of blueberries.
③The fixed value time of strawberry is spring and autumn, among which the survival rate of autumn planting is higher than that of spring planting. Planting in spring should be done sooner rather than later. The spacing between plants is usually 2 meters × 2 meters or 1.5 meters × 3 meters for rabbiteye blueberries, 1.2 meters × 2 meters for high bush blueberries, and 0.5 to 1 meter × 1 meter for low bush blueberries. Planting some other varieties of blueberries among the main varieties can improve the fruiting rate and fruit quality.
3. Fertilization
①Types of fertilization:
Applying nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer to blueberries is more effective than applying single fertilizer; the best application ratio is 1:1: 1 of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers; it is better to apply ammonium nitrogen fertilizers such as ammonium sulfate, but not nitrate nitrogen fertilizers; blueberries are sensitive to chlorine, so do not use chlorine-containing fertilizers such as ammonium chloride and potassium chloride to avoid yield reduction or plant death.
②Fertilization method and period
High bush and rabbiteye blueberries can be fertilized in furrows, with a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters. The roots of low bush blueberries will become connected after they are planted in the garden. Therefore, giving is the main thing. Fertilization is generally carried out in early spring before budding, and top dressing once during the ripening period of the berries.
③Amount of Fertilizer
Excessive fertilization can easily damage the blueberry tree or even kill the entire plant. Therefore, fertilization should be carried out according to the actual conditions of tree nutrition and soil fertility.
4. Irrigation
Blueberries have shallow root systems and like moisture, so timely irrigation is very necessary. It is best not to use deep well water for irrigation, because deep well water generally has a high pH value and high sodium and calcium content. Long-term use will affect the growth and yield of blueberries. When irrigating, you can use dilute sulfuric acid to adjust the pH value to about 5 before irrigating. It is best to irrigate every 3-5 days.
