The eggplant ladybug (Coccinellidae) belongs to the family Coccinellidae of the order Coleoptera, and is commonly known as Huadajie and Huabaobi. It is one of the main pests of eggplant. Both adults and larvae will damage eggplants, eating the mesophyll and leaving only the veins in severe cases. Ladybugs sometimes damage fruits and tender stems and feed on petals and sepals, making the fruits hard, bitter and of reduced quality.
Eggplant twenty-eight-star ladybug
Let’s continue to introduce the topic of this issue in depth.
The adults are about 6 mm long and yellowish brown. The three black spots on the base of the Coleoptera and the four black spots on the back are almost in a straight line. The black spots at the junction of the two wings are not connected, and the body is hemispherical; the egg is about 1.2 mm long, yellowish-white when first born, and then turns brown. The eggs in the egg mass are densely arranged; the larvae are about 7mm long, changing from light yellow to white, with white body hair; the pupae are about 5.5mm long, yellowish white. In mid-to-late May, the overwintering adult ladybugs begin their activities, first surviving on weeds and then damaging eggplants. The second generation of larvae appears in late July, with peak damage in mid-August, and the second generation of adults appears from mid-August to early October. The spawning period is from mid-June to mid-August. The egg stage usually lasts 5 to 11 days, and the larval stage lasts 16 to 26 days. After the first generation of larvae pupates (the pupal stage is 5-7 days), it takes several months for the second generation of adults to emerge. The optimal temperature for ladybug occurrence on eggplant is 22℃-28℃, and the relative humidity is 76% to 84%.
Adult killing control technology
During the occurrence of adult insects, use their habitual floating animation to kill them in the medicine pot. At noon, the effect is better. Egg collection: Given that eggplant ladybug eggs are huge and come in blocks of 10, eggs can be collected manually in a timely manner. Soil preparation and treatment of stumps: After harvest, there is an eggplant ladybug lurking on the stumps. Combined treatment of stubble and cultivated land can eliminate latent eggplant ladybugs. Chemical control: During the larvae hatching period or the young larvae stage, it is best to seize the opportunity to apply medicine in time. We can use 2.5% deltamethrin 3000 times liquid or 4000 times chrysanthemum spray.
