Location context
Fenghuang Ancient City is located in the southwest of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, at the southern foot of Wuling Mountain, on the east side of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, 52 kilometers away from Jishou City, the state capital. East longitude 109 18' to 109 48', north latitude 27 44' to 2819'. Luxi county in the east, Mayang County in the south, tongren city and Songtao Miao Autonomous County in the west, Jishou City and Huayuan County in the north. It is called "Yunnan and Guizhou in the west, Chen Yuan in the east, Sichuan and Hubei in the north and Guangxi in the south".
The total land area is about 10 square kilometer, which is composed of 28 ethnic groups, including Miao, Han and Tujia. It is a typical minority area. This is the only way between Huaihua, Jishou and Tongren, Guizhou. It is 27 kilometers away from Tongren Phoenix Airport, 57 kilometers away from Huaihua Zhijiang Airport and 280 kilometers away from Zhangjiajie Lotus Airport. G209 National Highway and S308 Provincial Highway run through the whole territory, and Liu Zhi Railway passes through the territory. Fenghuang Ancient City is adjacent to Dehang Miao Village in Jishou, Mengdong River in Yongshun and Fan Jing in Guizhou. It is the only road between Huaihua, Jishou and Tongren, Guizhou, with convenient transportation.
Architectural composition
Fenghuang Ancient City was founded in the thirty-fifth year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (1556), with a history of more than 400 years. The buildings of the East Gate and the North Gate are still there. Qingshiban Street in the city, wooden diaojiao building by the river, Chaoyang Palace, Ancient City Museum, Yangjia Ancestral Hall, Shen Congwen's former residence, Xiong Xiling's former residence, Tianwang Temple, Dacheng Hall, Wanshou Palace and other buildings.
