Ouyuan, built in Qing Dynasty, is located in Xiaoxinqiao Lane, north of Suzhou. It is famous at home and abroad for its small size and beautiful scenery. It is said that the Couple Garden was built by Lu Jinzhi, the magistrate of Baoning in the Yongzheng period of the former Qing Dynasty, with an area of only 12 mu. It is small and unique, facing the river on three sides and the street on one side, and has strong characteristics of Jiangnan water town. In the 13th year of Tongzhi (1873), the provincial judge Shen Bingcheng bought this garden and redesigned it. In terms of architectural artistic conception, it is unique and unique. The buildings in the garden are exquisite and tortuous, exquisite and elegant, with ingenious ideas, and the rockery with lakes and rocks is novel in layout and unique in shape; The essence of vegetation in the park, green trees and vines, beautiful flowers and jade leaves, is magnificent and beautiful. On the outer side of the flower window on the outer wall of Ouyuan, there is a brick-carved couplet: "Ouyuan lives in a beautiful couple, and the city bends to build a poetic city", and the banner is "pillow and wave are hidden", which is elegant in taste and smooth in font, written by Mrs. Yan Yonghua of Shen Bingcheng herself. It reflects the master's artistic conception of seclusion in the countryside and sincere feelings, so it is named "Ouyuan".

The gate of Ouyuan is very simple, just an ordinary moon gate, which is not different from other buildings from the outside. Passing through the concierge, you will arrive at the East Garden, a brilliant gathering place in the Couple Garden. The East Garden is dominated by rockery, and all the rocks used are Taihu rocks, and the pool water is set off next to the rocks, which reflects the ingenious idea of the owner when designing the garden. The rockery is not only natural, but also in a proper position. Rocks on the precipice, ramp and gorge of the rockery are natural and lifelike. The stones are alternating in size, concave and convex, horizontal, straight and oblique, and the side of the rockery is rippling with water, so it is called "Moon-receiving Pool". The pool water extends eastward from the rockery, and there is a three-fold bridge on the water. The bridge has a 30% discount, which means that the owner built the bridge at the home of officials from the DPRK to the third grade, and the bridge was built at several grades. Along the three-fold curved bridge, I reached the "My Love Pavilion" and the "Pillow Wave Double Hidden" pool opposite the rockery. The red eaves of the "My Love Pavilion" were slightly tilted, and the pavilion clung to the water, symbolizing the intimacy of the couple. At the southern end of the pool, there is a pavilion built across the water, which is called the "landscape room". There are windows on all sides of the "Mountain Water Room", which is antique. In the pavilion, there is a floor cover called "Three Friends of the Cold Year", which is carved with rosewood. It is extremely beautiful. I don't know which skillful craftsman has made it. The carvings in many gardens in the south of the Yangtze River are not as good as it, ranking first among all gardens in Suzhou. It is a rare treasure. The building technology of the pavilion is very ingenious, like an exquisite cruise ship moored in the pool, which means that Shen Bingcheng is seeking an official job in the DPRK. There is a pattern on the ground at the entrance of the pavilion. People say that we must move from the bottom up, and our career will prosper in the future. Three steps will be promoted to the third level, and one step will be the first step, showing Shen Bingcheng's desire to continue to climb. The altar in the pavilion is dedicated to a one-meter square gold brick, which was given to Shen Bingcheng by the emperor. There is a hall on the first floor to the south of the "Mountain Water Room", and the name of the building is "Tingling Building". Because the garden is surrounded by water on three sides, the owner can hear the sound of swaying when sitting in the building, so it is named "Tingling Building". Boarding the "Tingling Building", you can see the beautiful scenery of the rocks and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the coupling garden. There is an exit from the Tingling Building, where the owner travels by water. The garden is connected by land and water, which shows that the owner has considered the convenience and dexterity of access when designing.

The west garden of Ouyuan is the living place of the owner and his wife. After living in seclusion, the husband and wife study leisurely, weave curtains and work at ease. The west garden complements the east garden in architectural layout, and the study and courtyard are closely combined, which constitutes another feature of the coupled garden. Because Shen Bingcheng likes stone calligraphy and painting and is good at collecting, there are many paintings and calligraphy works of dynasties in the garden. The idea of room layout comes from his thoughts, such as a bottle and a can on several cases in the main hall, which means that the home is safe; The pattern on the floor in the courtyard is composed of plum blossoms and copper coins, which is said to mean "no money to spend", showing poverty in wealth and simplicity in prosperity to show Shen Bingcheng's incorruptible status; It is every flower window on the wall of the courtyard, without repeated patterns, which reflects the master's conception skills in design everywhere.
