What is genetic modification? Simply put, genetic modification is a technology that breaks the boundaries of species and is very different from the traditional method of cross-breeding; genetic modification is a technique by which a gene is isolated from a living organism and implanted into another, completely different, organism.

Can consumers choose non-GMO foods? According to current scientific research, long-term consumption of GM foods may trigger allergic reactions; it may also affect liver and kidney functions. Consumers International (which includes 250 consumer organizations in 115 countries around the world) also emphasized that "no government or United Nations organization currently claims that GM foods are completely safe". Consumption of GM food poses the greatest risk of sensitization to children. According to a report of the Royal Society (the most authoritative association of scientists in the United Kingdom), since infants are more susceptible to food sensitization than adults and must consume certain foods for a long period of time, making infants a high-risk group in terms of food safety, infant foods containing GM ingredients "should be subject to the most stringent scrutiny "

Many consumers have questions about which foods may contain GM ingredients. Major genetically modified food crops, including genetically modified soybeans, genetically modified corn and genetically modified oilseed rape, are now widely grown around the world. Soybeans, corn and their derivatives (e.g., soy lecithin, soy protein, corn starch, etc.) are most often used as food ingredients and additives, and may be added to everyday foods such as cookies, instant noodles, and even infant milk powder, making foods containing GM ingredients ubiquitous.
