In the history of Hong Kong, there is also a tragic story about Bauhinia: 1898, 19. In June, the "Special Provisions for Expanding Hong Kong Concession" was signed in Bauhinia City, and the British government forcibly leased a large area of land in Kowloon Peninsula and more than 200 nearby islands (later called the New Territories) for 99 years. Two months later, despite the strong opposition and resistance from the people of China and Britain, thousands of patriotic people rose up to defend their homes and counterattack the British army barracks. The British army suffered heavy losses, but the people were brutally suppressed, and 6,543.8+10,000 people in the New Territories lost their land. After the robbery, the villagers built a big tomb in Guijiao Mountain to bury the heroes who died bravely. Later, a tree with purple flowers that I had never seen before grew on Guijiao Mountain. A few years later, that kind of flower bloomed all over the hillsides of the New Territories, and it was colorful, especially around Tomb-Sweeping Day. When it was in full bloom, it was like a memorial to the martyrs, and people named it Bauhinia. 1965, Bauhinia was selected as the city flower of Hong Kong.
In ancient China, bauhinia was often used as a metaphor for family ties, symbolizing the harmony between brothers and the prosperity of family business. It comes from an allusion that Jingtian was separated from his brothers Ching Tien and Tian Guang during the Southern Dynasties. When all the other properties were properly distributed, I finally found a bauhinia tree in the yard, which was leafy and difficult to deal with. That night, the three brothers discussed cutting the bauhinia tree into three pieces, one for each piece. The next morning, when the three brothers went to cut down the tree, they found that all the branches and leaves of this bauhinia had withered and all the flowers had fallen. Tian Zhen couldn't help sighing to the two brothers when he saw this: "People are not as good as wood." Later, the three brothers got together again and lived in harmony. The bauhinia tree seems to be quite human, but it has come back to life and is full of flowers.
Bauhinia, also known as bauhinia, bauhinia and bauhinia, is an evergreen medium-sized tree of Sumeriaceae. Its leaves are round, oval or kidney-shaped, but the top is split in two, like bauhinia, hence the name. During the flowering period between winter and spring, the flowers are as big as the palm of your hand, slightly fragrant, and the five petals are evenly arranged in turns, either red or pink, which is very beautiful. Bauhinia is evergreen and luxuriant all year round, which is quite resistant to smoke and dust, especially suitable for street trees; Bark contains tannin, which can be used as tanning material and dye; Roots, bark and flowers can also be used as medicine.
