[Pharmacology]Curcumin can induce apoptosis of tumor cells and inhibit tumor cell proliferation. It has inhibitory effect on mouse sarcoma 180 animal transplantation tumor. Turmeric decoction and infusion animal experiments have a choleretic effect, can increase bile secretion, so that the gallbladder contraction, and analgesic effect.
[Application] (1) It is used for digestive tract tumors with qi stagnation and qi depression, cold and dampness coagulation, stasis and toxicity internal obstruction, symptomatic chest tightness and discomfort, gastric and epigastric pains, and lumps and distension under the dorsal region, etc. It is often used in combination with Citrus aurantium dulcis, Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Pericarpium Citriodis, Xuanhu, and Hehuan Pi.

This product is the dried root
stem of CurcumawenyujinY.H.ChenetC.Ling of the family Zingiberaceae. Digging in winter after the withering of the stem and leaves, wash, remove the fibrous roots, cut thick slices while fresh, and dry in the sun.
Morphological description perennial rooted herb. Root stout, end expanded into long ovate tuber. Tubers ovoid, lateral, rhizome terete, yellow in cross section. Leaves basal; petiole ca. 5 cm, basal petioles short, or nearly sessile, auriculate; leaf blade oblong, 15-37 cm long, 7-10 cm wide, apex caudate, base rounded or triangular. Spikes, ca. 13 cm long; pedicels 7-15 cm long; sheathing leaves, basal bracts broadly ovoid, several florets, borne in bracts, apical bracts narrower, flowerless in axils; calyx white tubular, irregularly 3-toothed; corolla tube funnel-shaped, lobes 3, pinkish-white, the upper 1 larger, lateral lobes oblong; lateral staminodes oblong, connective spaced, filaments compressed and broad; ovary ambrosial Styles filiform, smooth or sparsely hairy, base with 2 rod-like appendages, stigma slightly 2-lipped, ciliate.
