From the early 1990s, the town of Liji, Wanning City, Hainan Province, has been planting winter squash and gradually developed into a major town of winter squash in Wanning City, while the cowpeas of Sanshing Village are a model for Wanning City and even the whole province.

In June 2010, Sanshing Village set up the "Wanning Sanshing Cowpea Planting Co-operative Society" to improve the quality of agricultural products and promote standardized agricultural production. The Hainan Provincial Department of Agriculture and the Wanning Municipal Government invested 300,000 yuan in supporting the co-op to set up a command center for pest control and a number of subsidies to promote the use of biological pesticides and highly efficient low-toxicity chemical pesticides. The Hainan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Wanning City Government invested RMB 10,000 yuan to support the cooperative to set up a pest control center and subsidize the promotion of a number of biological pesticides and highly efficient and low-toxic chemical pesticides to build up the quality brand of "Bianshan Cowpea. Through the promotion of green prevention and control technology, the cowpea pest control in the demonstration base is effective and the quality is guaranteed. In September of the same year, Bianshan cowpea planting area of Sanshing Village became a demonstration base of green unified prevention of pests and diseases of winter melon and vegetables in Hainan Province.
