Living in the upper layers of rivers and lakes, they often swim in groups on the water to feed on zooplankton and insects. The breeding period is May-June. Widely distributed in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and affiliated lakes. Although the individual is not big, it is a common small edible fish with a considerable number.
