Because the main vines of melon are weak, but the lateral vines are vigorous, thin-skinned melons are mainly fruiting vines and drying vines. In order to regulate the growth of melon vines, techniques such as pinching, pruning and branching are often used in production to control the vegetative growth of vines and promote early fruiting and early maturity.
In production, melon farmers can use the following three methods for pruning:
1. Double-vine pruning is suitable for hanging vine cultivation of melon in greenhouse and greenhouse. The main method is as follows: when the two leaves of the main vine are combined with the three leaves of the main vine, the core is picked, leaving two stout sub-vines hanging at the lower part, one melon for each root vine, two lateral branches (sun vines) in front of the melon, and three leaves for each sun vine, so as to ensure an average of 7-9 functional leaves and promote fruit development. You can leave up to 4 melons on each vine and up to 8 melons on the whole plant.
2. Three-vine pruning is suitable for cultivation without vines in open field and protected field. The main method is: pinch the tip when the main stem has three leaves and four leaves, and leave three thick vines for each plant. The first vine can leave a melon on the third leaf, the second vine can leave a melon on the second leaf and the third main vine can leave a melon on the first leaf. Leave 3-4 dried vines on each vine, 3 leaves on each dried vine and pick the core, and 3 melons on the whole plant. Fruits are ripe and more intensively listed. The whole plant has more than 50 leaves, and each melon has an average of 17~20 functional leaves, which ensures that the photosynthetic products of leaves meet the needs of melon swelling and sugar accumulation, and promotes the normal growth and development of fruits.
Three, four rattan pruning is suitable for open field and protected land without hanging vines, and its main characteristics are the same as those of three rattan pruning. The method is as follows: when the main stem has four leaves and five leaves, and each plant has four robust branches, pinch the tip. The first vine can leave/kloc-0 melons on the fourth leaf, the second vine leaves melons on the third leaf, the third main vine leaves melons on the second leaf, and the fourth vine leaves melons on the first leaf. Leave 3-4 dried vines on each vine, 3 leaves on each dried vine and pick the core, and 4 melons on the whole plant. Precautions: Pruning should be done after dew evaporation in sunny days, so as to facilitate wound healing as soon as possible and prevent infection. It is best to use scissors for pruning, and prepare a wet towel soaked with drugs such as 75% chlorothalonil 200 times solution, and wipe the scissors once after cutting a tree to prevent cross infection. Pruning and core removal is an important technical measure of melon management and the key to the success of cultivation. Dear melon farmers, you must do the above work well, and you will have unexpected gains.
