(1) spring pruning: spring pruning belongs to modeling pruning, generally synchronized with the harvest of toon buds. From the second year after cultivation, remove the top buds of the 2-year-old tree tops, and 2 to 3 new buds will sprout that year. If the height of the trunk is suitable, the new buds can be retained, and after lignification, they will become 2 to 3 lateral branches; if the height of the trunk is too high, the new buds can be centered (not all of the buds can be taken off), and the lower buds will be encouraged to sprout new buds, and 2 to 3 new buds will be retained according to the desired position, and after lignification, they will become lateral branches. After the third year, the top of the three lateral branches will produce new buds, and when pruning, the top buds of the three lateral branches will be removed, and each lateral branch will produce two to three new lateral buds, which will be lignified to form new lateral branches. After forming this way, the trunk is high, the branches are large, the canopy level is thick, the ventilation and light are good, the harvesting surface is large, and the yield is more stable.

(2) summer pruning: summer pruning is generally carried out in July to August sunny day around 15:00, so that favorable wound healing, avoid cloudy day pruning. After pruning the shaped toon tree, the growth of too strong, too high branches topped or shortened to promote the lateral buds sprouting to form new branches and rejuvenation of the weaker parts, the formation of more top buds full of short lateral branches.

(3) winter pruning: winter pruning is best done in early winter (or late fall) and early spring during the dormant period. Thinning 1 year old dense branches, too weak branches, disease and insect branches, dead branches and perennial old branches. Pruning knife and axe should be sharp, pruning should be close to the trunk from the bottom up cutting, the incision should be smooth, the wound should be small. Do not move, strain the bark, affecting the growth and development of trees.

The toon is temperature-loving, suitable for cultivation in areas with an average temperature of 8-10 ℃, cold resistance with the increase in the age of the seedling tree. With seed direct seedling in 8-10 ℃ or so may be frozen. Toon is light-loving, more tolerant of moisture, suitable for growing in the fertile and moist soil around the river and the mansion, generally good for sandy loam. Suitable soil acidity and alkalinity is pH5.5-8.0.
