Shanghai dialect, also known as Shanghai gossip, Shanghai Wu dialect and Shanghai dialect, is an important foundation of Shanghai local culture. Shanghai dialect is an important representative of Wu dialect, which can basically communicate with other dialects in Taihu Lake area of Wu dialect and is an influential language in modern Wu dialect area.

Shanghai dialect in a narrow sense refers to Shanghai dialect, which is commonly known as Shanghai dialect. Shanghai dialect in a broad sense also includes local (suburban) dialects in Shanghai, mainly including Pudong dialect, Songjiang dialect, Jiading dialect, Chongming dialect, Jinshan dialect, Qingpu dialect and Fengxian dialect. Shanghai was originally composed of Jiangdong 1 1 counties, and dialects reflect the cultural information of Jiangdong.
