Myanmar is in Asia, southwest of China.
Myanmar is bordered by the Andaman Sea in the southwest, India and Bangladesh in the northwest, China in the northeast, and Thailand and Laos in the southeast, with Naypyidaw as its capital. It is a country in Southeast Asia and a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. On November 27, Pope Francis arrived in Yangon, Myanmar, becoming the first pope to visit the country.
On January 18, 2018, Japan's Foreign Minister Taro Kono visited Myanmar's western Rakhine State. This is the first time a foreign government cabinet member has entered the Rakhine region.
In the aftermath of the violent clashes in Rakhine State, major Western countries have widely accused Myanmar of human rights violations.
In September 2019, South Korean President Moon Jae-in visited Myanmar, which was the first time a South Korean president paid a state visit to the country after seven years.
