You can start a fire with flammable materials such as newspaper or twigs. Here is how to start a fire with newspaper.
1, first prepare the newspaper
2, open the vent holes at the bottom of the grill and clean out the ash, because charcoal needs sufficient oxygen to burn.
Knead 4-5 balls of newspaper and place them in the center of the grill. Newspaper burns quickly and creating a flame will help the charcoal burn. You can also dip half of the newspaper in olive, canola or vegetable oil, which will slow down the burn and give the charcoal more time to burn. This DIY solution is a natural alternative to lighter fluid.
3. Place small dry wood, pilot matches, or small pieces of wood used to start a fire on newspaper, all of which have a low fire point and help to ignite the charcoal.
4, 3-4 charcoal placed on top of the dry wood placed near the center, light the newspaper from several places separately, you will find that the dry wood is easily lit by the newspaper and slowly ignites the charcoal.
5. Slowly add more crushed charcoal, once more charcoal starts to burn you can start to add multiple pieces of charcoal. A small sized charcoal grill usually requires 25-30 pieces of charcoal; a medium sized charcoal grill requires about 40 pieces of charcoal; and a large charcoal grill requires 1-2 bags of charcoal.
