Fisherman's Song - The White Heron Flying in front of Xisai Mountain

Zhang Zhihe

The white heron flies in front of Xisai Mountain, and the fish of the Peach Blossom River Mandarin Fish are fat.

Green Ruo hat, Green Demoiselle raincoat, no need to return in the wind and rain.

Translation: In front of Xisai Mountain, egrets are flying freely, peach blossoms are blooming on the river bank, spring water is rising, and Mandarin fish are fat in the water. The fisherman is wearing a green colored Ruo hat and a green straw raincoat, braving the wind and rain, and fishing happily, not needing to go home.

"Fishing Songs - White Egrets Flying in Front of Xisai Mountain" is a poem by Zhang Zhihe, a poet of the Tang Dynasty. The first two lines of this poem are about the place and season of fishing. In these two lines, there are mountains, water, birds, flowers and fish, outlining a beautiful environment for fishing and paving the way for the characters to appear. The last two lines of the poem are about fishing on the smoky waves. The phrase "gentle wind and rain" in the last line is not only a realistic description of the scenery, but also has a deeper meaning. Through the praise of the natural scenery and fishermen fishing, this lyric expresses the author's mood of yearning for a free life.
