As far as international standardization of pallet size is concerned, Sweden took the lead in introducing pallet standard as early as 1947, and ISO/R198 pallet standard was promulgated by the International Organization for Standardization in 1961, and it is suggested to adopt three sizes: 1.8m×1.2m, 1.8m×1m and 1m× 1.2m.: In 1963, ISO/R329 pallet standard was issued, and two sizes of 1.2m×1.6m and 1.2m×1.8m were added. In 1971, ISO/TC51 pallet standard was promulgated, adding three dimensions: 1.8m×1.1m, 1.9m×1.1m and 1.1m× 1.1m. Later, ISO/TC51 decided to cancel ISO/R198 and ISO/329, suggesting that the pallet size should be changed from 1.8m×1.2m, 1m×1.2m and 1.116m× By 1997, the dimensions of 1.141m×1.141m, 1.8m×1.2m, 1m×1.2m, 1.1m×1.1m, 1.116m×1.219m, 1.141m×1.141m were all recognized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). At present, the International Organization for Standardization is still discussing the revision of the international standard for pallets.

Because the dimensions of pallets are too wide and the related factors are too complicated, it is not easy to achieve real consistency and unification, and there must be a process. At present, the core dimensions of three regions have naturally formed. The national standard pallet size in the United States is 1.219m×1.116m(48×41 inches), the neighboring countries in Canada and Mexico are 1m×1m, and Australia are 1.165m×1.165m and 1.1m×1.1m m.. European countries use 1.8m×1.2m, while Germany, Britain and the Netherlands all use 1.8m×1.2m and 1m×1.2m Nordic countries have unified pallets of 1.8m× 1.2m.. Asian countries, with Japan, South Korea, Singapore and China's Taiwan Province as the core, adopt a large proportion of 1.1m×1.1m, and the penetration rate is increasing year by year, which gradually affects China and tends to expand the application scope of the whole Asia.

At present, the pallet specifications in China are rather confusing. The mechanical industry system uses pallets of 1.8m×1m and 1.5m×18m specified in JB3113-81, and the national standard (GB/T 2934-1996) promulgated in China in 1982 defines the plane dimensions of general flat pallets for intermodal transport as: 1.8m×1.2m, 1.2m×1.8m, 1m×1.2m and 1.2m×. In addition, there are also pallet standards in China: GB/T 3716-2111 pallet terminology, GB/T 16471-1996 pallet packaging, GB/T 15234-1994 plastic flat pallet, GB/T 4996-1996 general flat pallet test method for combined transport, and GB/T 4995-1996 general flat pallet for combined transport. In recent years, 1.1m×1.1m pallets have appeared in China, which is also a new trend.
