Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) was reorganized and established as Beijing Capital Airport Group Corporation (BCAGC) at the end of 1999, and inherited part of the non-aviation business and assets and liabilities of the former Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA).
On October 13, 1999, the State Economic and Trade Commission of China (SETC) approved BCIA to be the sole promoter to establish the Beijing Capital International Airport Corporation (BCIC) by initiating the establishment of Beijing Capital International Airport Corporation (BCIC). Ltd. was incorporated in Beijing, People's Republic of China on October 15, 1999 to own and operate Beijing Capital International Airport. In November of the same year, Beijing Capital International Airport Company Limited appointed ADP, a French airport management company, as a strategic advisor to the company to provide advice and assistance in the development of Beijing Capital International Airport into a central airport and the expansion of non-aeronautical businesses, etc. In January 2000, Beijing Capital International Airport Company Limited issued 1,346,150,000 H-shares to foreign investors. The shares were listed and traded on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited ("SEHK") on February 1, the same year. On May 18, 2001, the Company was approved by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of the PRC to become a foreign-invested joint stock company with registered assets of RMB3,846,150,000. Shareholding composition: Beijing Capital Airport Group Company 65%, Aeroports de Paris Management Company (ADP) 9.99%, other public shareholders 25.01%.
Currently, Beijing Capital International Airport Co., Ltd. mainly operates aeronautical and non-aeronautical businesses: aeronautical businesses include the provision of aircraft landing, take-off and passenger service facilities for Chinese and foreign airlines, as well as the provision of security check, security services and fire and rescue services; and the provision of ground service facilities for ground service agents. In the past three years, Capital Airport has ranked first among airports in mainland China in terms of air traffic flow, and is among the world's busiest airports in terms of passenger throughput and cargo and mail throughput.
Non-aeronautical businesses include the operation of duty-free stores and other retail outlets in the terminals, the leasing of terminal properties, the leasing of advertising spaces inside and outside the terminals, and the operation of parking buildings and parking lots.
In addition, the Company participates in the management of the Joint Venture by way of investment and equity participation, including: 1. providing ground agency services to Chinese and foreign airlines through Beijing Airport Aviation Ground Services Company Limited (BGS); 2. providing in-flight meal delivery services to Chinese and foreign airlines and food processing services to a number of restaurants in the downtown area of Beijing City through Beijing Airport Food Distribution Company Limited (BAIK); 3. providing food distribution services to a number of Chinese and foreign airlines through Beijing Airport Food Distribution Company Limited (BAIK); 4. providing food processing services to a number of restaurants in the downtown area of Beijing City through Beijing Airport Food Distribution Company Limited (BAIK). In 2002, Beijing Capital International Airport guaranteed 2,423,338 safe takeoffs and landings, with 27,159,700 passengers and 886,000 tons of cargo and mail throughput, the three main indicators ranked first among all major airports in China, and, according to production data of major airports around the world from January to October 2002, the passenger throughput of Capital Airport ranked first among major airports in China. In 2003, Beijing Capital International Airport guaranteed 236,000 safe takeoffs and landings, with a passenger throughput of 23,470,800 and a cargo and mail throughput of 693,000 tons.
