Expressway service area is manned 24 hours a day. There is no time limit for parking in the service area, and any vehicle is allowed to park, rest and eat in the high-speed service area. The traffic police department of expressway has always advised drivers who are sleepy or have been driving for more than 4 hours to drive to the nearest service area and take a proper rest before going on the road.

I. expressway Service Area

Expressway service area refers to a place for passengers and drivers to rest, and should provide parking lots, public toilets, gas stations, vehicle repair shops, restaurants and canteens, with an average distance of about 50 kilometers. The construction scale of service area should adapt to the future traffic growth. Unilateral service area is also called central centralized service area. Its layout principle is to set up a service area on one side of the road, and all kinds of functional services are concentrated in one service area. Vehicles in the reverse lane enter the service area through overpasses or tunnels. Because unilateral service area has some defects compared with bilateral service area, it is relatively rare.

Second, the service area level

Expressway service area, as a supporting service facility generated by the industrial development in expressway, is of great significance to the rapid development of expressway and the increase of mileage planning. The effective operation and high-quality service of the service area can better realize the social service value of expressway, increase the economic benefits of expressway investment companies, provide employment opportunities and solve the diversion of surplus personnel. In addition, we can also take advantage of the opportunity of developing service areas to obtain scarce land resources at a lower land cost. Therefore, by combing the relevant literature at home and abroad, combined with the planning and construction status and development trend of expressway in China, this paper analyzes the various functions of the service area, and divides the services in expressway into three types according to the planning scale and functional completeness, namely, the first-class service area, the second-class service area and the third-class service area, each with its own characteristics.

Expressway service area has its own management and operation mode and regular characteristics, which is an important part of expressway management. Managing the service area well is not only the urgent hope of drivers and passengers, but also the demand of expressway management system. It plays an indispensable role in the development and operation of expressway, and it will become more and more important with the continuous development of expressway.
