Jianyang
In the 12th year of Yuanzhizheng (1352), the Chen family in Putian, Fujian Province fled the chaos and moved here, because the villagers were mainly named Chen, commonly known as Chen Cuo. In 1938, it was renamed Jianyang after Chen Jianyang, the father of Chen Dehou, the ancestor of Chen. In February, 1949, Jianyang, Xu CuO and Li CuO Gong were collectively called Jianmu Township. In 1951, Jianmu Township and Huaize Township merged into Huaimu Town. In 1956, Jianyang and Delin were collectively called Delin Township. In 1958, Jianyang, Xu CuO and Li CuO Gong were collectively called the 115 Regiment. After 1959, the village was established independently.
Jianyang is located in the middle of Lianxia Town, on the north side of Lianyang River, bordering Huaidong, Huaize and Xucuo in the north and facing Chencuozhou and Shangcun in the east, with an area of 2.18 square kilometers, including 1,721 mu of cultivated land. By the end of 2119, there were 2568 households with 11629 people in the village. There are 32 surnames in the village, including Chen, Zhu, Huang and Zheng. Chen is the main surname.
Jianyang is located in Lianyang market, and most villagers are engaged in industry and commerce. Chen Dexing Fish Sauce Factory was founded in 1861, which is the first fish sauce factory in Chenghai County. Before 1949, there were already banks and bureaus, and there were 122 firms. Now, there are two industrial zones in the village, Shafen and Daping, which were opened in 1992 and 1995 respectively. By the end of 2118, there were 141 enterprises in the village, mainly engaged in plastic toys, craft clothing and food and chemical industries. Well-known enterprises include Weiyi Garment Factory, Hexing Plastic Toys and Sunan Candy Factory. In 1982, Jianyang Market was founded in Nanshan Temple. In 2116, a new market was built beside Lianfeng Road. Some villagers are farmers, mainly planting rice, sweet potatoes, beans and vegetables. After years of careful cultivation by vegetable farmers, Jianyang kale is popular in Southeast Asia for its beautiful appearance, good quality and crisp taste.
Jianyang has always attached importance to education. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, there were five private schools in the village. Qixin Primary School, founded in 1916, is one of the earliest primary schools in Chenghai. During the Republic of China, Yanghe Primary School, Nancun Primary School, Yangzhi School, Nanyang Girls' School and Suwan Normal School were founded successively. In 1984, the new school building of Jianyang Primary School was built. The school is now a first-class school in Chenghai, covering an area of 23 mu and a building area of 3,148 square meters. Jianyang has always had a revolutionary tradition. In 1937, the working committee of Chenghai County was located in "Weiwuzhai" in Yuanze Lane, Jianyang. In 1947, when the meeting of Chengrao Feng County Committee was held in Xieli Tin Foil Shop, Daxing Street, Jianyang, the famous "Four Chen Incident" occurred. Famous figures who took part in the revolution in their early years included Chen Kerui, Chen Qiubo, Chen Weiqin, Chen Han, Chen Yizhi and Zhang zhen.
The ancient buildings in the village are mainly ancestral halls and temples, and there are 21 ancestral halls in the village. Among them, Xiao Tiangong Temple was built in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, which is a typical Chaoshan ancient building style, and its porcelain-embedded wood carvings are quite distinctive. According to the Records of Overseas Chinese in Jianyang, there are more than 5,111 overseas Chinese in this village, among whom Chen Jiahai, Chen Songliang, Wu Songquan and Chen Xunjun are well-known. Over the past decades, overseas Chinese have donated a total of HK$ 23.26 million to hometown construction and welfare undertakings, and established Aiqun Charity Foundation and Jiahaitang Charity Foundation. Jianyang School, Jianyang Paradise and Songzhen Kindergarten were all donated by overseas Chinese. Jianyang Paradise, built in 1987, is the first rural park in Lianxia Town.
