The Institute of Life Studies had a chat with this interesting girl all afternoon
In the current trend of disconnecting from the world
We are still thinking about how to make the best use of what we have
Being more than just clearing out the "useless" things around us
What's more than just cleaning up the "useless" things around us
We have a lot to do, but we are not sure if we can make the best use of them. "
Jing is more keen on discovering the new value of these old things through her hard work
Her appreciation of things
shows us that there is a warmer feeling in our hearts and minds.
1 |Origin|
In this house far from the city, every decoration seems like a work of art, and there is a strong handmade love here.
JING was originally a fashion designer, and after seven years of work, she quit her job to start her own independent design brand. Far away from the city, she rents her house in Wutong Hill, which, although only 70 square meters, takes on the functions of both residence and studio.
Because of her habit of photographing products, she is obsessive-compulsive and must keep every detail of the house's decor within her control.
I took several photos of JING, and my favorite is this one with the cat, "just like your tenderness".
When it comes to environmental protection, JING obviously doesn't have the stamina to convince anyone, but because her first job was related to environmental design, she fell in love with the idea of upcycling. After three years of insisting on not buying new furniture, a dilapidated village house was slowly transformed by the efforts of his partner, Mr. Jing.
Let's start with a few before-and-after pictures of the living room, bedroom and kitchen:
Partner Mr. Jing is a spatial designer, and he provided a lot of advice on hard-decorating in the house
The owner of the house, who loves to toss and turn, is still busy with his daily DIY, and the house was already getting more and more alive when he visited JING:
The day of the interview, JING was in the middle of his DIY project.
On the day of the interview, JING was knitting her cat's nest in the living room. It's like a show room, and she enjoys it.
In this house far from the city, every decoration is like a piece of work, and if you want to add something, you can do it yourself. For example, today picked up an old stool, to make it a new cushion, tomorrow got an old bicycle frame, can be made into a storage basket ...... days, what she will not do?
2 |Highlights of the remodeling|
So we suddenly seemed to have become detectives, archaeologists who were obsessed with the truth, couldn't help but take a closer look at every inspired decoration in the house.

In addition to clothes and hats, old denim rags can also be made into drawers, wall organizers, and fashion items made from recyclable materials you can think of ......
7) IN the Wild Decoration
Materials:
Leaves + Peels + Tea Cinders + Bean Pods + Glassware
JING's home decor carries a lot of the "wildness" she seeks in her European and American hard photos. She is good at finding these raw materials in nature, branches and leaves are the most common elements in the house, and the color of plants is the most original coat.
① Leaves and peels
② Wild pods
Picked up leaves and eaten peels into a glass jar, randomly tied up wild pods, but also decorative.
③ Botanical colors
Dyeing cotton threads with black tea, pomegranate skins, and indigo makes the best decoration in the living room.
8) There are so many uses for tree branches
Materials:
Tree branches + twine + woolen threads + light bulbs
①Make a coat rack

discarded light bulbs originally used for hydroponics plant planter, the use of old branches made into a hanging surprisingly also good.
③ made into an ornament
The branches of the woods are wonderful decorative materials, JING with wool to give them a new life, this corner of the corner so live, crocheted colors so beautiful that people immediately think of Mexico's Ebolaje, drenched in Mayan civilization, exotic and fascinating.
④ made into hooks
Hooks made from treated branches, the natural wood texture will not be reproduced at all, and this image can be directly on the inside of the magazine.
9) Bunker board for bed and wardrobe
Materials:
Bunker board + old jeans + sponge
The bedroom is the place where the creator's "daydreams" are born. "JING is good at finding the beauty in old things, often picking up materials, and a preliminary remodeling idea is already forming in her mind.
Make the bottom of a tatami mat from the mattress boards she found, make the bed from old denim and sponge , and then use the leftover fabric to make a mosquito net canopy, and use the old boards to make the sliders and shelves for the open closet.
With tapestries made from twine, old wall clocks restored, and botanical planters made from felted wool fabric, JING's do-it-yourself inspirations just keep on coming.
9) High-value storage
Materials:
Old jeans + waste boards + lampshades + twine + old bicycle frames + powdered milk cans
Old jeans made into a wall storage bag, old camphor crates doubled as storage tables. The most admirable thing is that all the daily objects you can think of have the possibility to be made into organizers, importantly, the value is quite high after the refurbishment .
A variety of storage devices
JING's daily crafts are done in the workspace, and in order to save space and make it easier to find what you need at a glance, the gadgets are all hung up in a way to store them, the lampshade is used to store needles and threads, and the bike frame is transformed into a basket of miscellaneous items
.10) Painting the ceiling with homemade eco-friendly paints

The humid air in the mountains makes the ceiling peeling off. JING repaired it with homemade paint (putty and latex) and added blue color to paint the ceiling in the dining room as well as the bathroom.
11) Homemade dining decor
Materials:
Waste boards + wire + burlap + cotton wool
Even the gods also rewarded with a bar table and shelves made from waste boards found. I actually managed to pick up four high stools that match the height of the table and two antique ovens. With handmade vegetable netting, a strong Japanese flavor.
My favorite, however, is the ugly paper chandelier, made from wire in the shape of a fan, with recycled paper as the base frame and found burlap pasted onto the outer layer.
It's beautiful when you turn on the lights
12) Imaginative natural stone bath
Materials:
Porcelain tiles + white cement + natural stone
This is the most imaginative remodeling of the whole bathroom, and it's the best part. The most imaginative part of the whole bathroom is this remodeled boulder bath, picked up construction scraps and plastered porcelain tiles, then filled in the gaps with white cement and put in the boulders, and every time you take a bath, you have a feeling of being in a natural bath waterfall.
3 |Afterword|
She showed us that life has an infinite plasticity, and does not come from a professional lesson plan.
The interview took place about a year ago, and searching for Shenzhen's Wutong Mountain on a map, we envisioned this meeting in scenarios such as the deep, smoky mountains:
Life in Wutong Mountain, as documented by JING. This is the best-maintained natural landscape and the purest water source in the whole of Shenzhen, and people come to climb the mountain from time to time on weekends.
Out of an unearthly white woman:
However, JING out of the village to pick us up, appeared in a wide T-shirt pants, side braided pigtails, wearing a gray felt hat, followed by two playing with each other's dogs, whether it is to speak or laugh up the big la-la, and a little bit of comedy, and the image of our imagination is completely different.
A picture of the house:
The conversation with the dogs and cats during the interview was hilarious
Watching the whole house was a bit like watching a fascinating environmental experiment, and for a few moments I forgot I was interviewing a homeowner.
A few days after the interview, JING sent us the finished cat's nest, which was not made of wool, but scrap T-shirt fabric
We marveled at her practicality, and she is one of the few wild designers we've interviewed in recent years who has such a well-rounded hands-on approach. It's something that's hard to keep up with with a little less patience. She showed us that life is infinitely malleable and doesn't come from a professional lesson plan, and until now, the remodeling in the house will continue.
