Huayuan town is located in the southeast of Leling City, 25 kilometers away from the urban area, with Yangxin County in the east and Shanghe County in the south, covering an area of 88.89 square kilometers. In June 2000, it was formed by the merger of the original Liuwuguan Township and Huayuan Township. The town has an excellent geographical position and convenient transportation.

The reason why huayuan town got its name: At the end of Yuan Dynasty, an official household built a garden in Zaofang Village. During the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (1403- 1424), Zhang, Wang, Fang and Du settled here. Because there is a kind of golden bell in the garden, it is named Jinyuan, hereinafter referred to as Jinyuan.

Huayuan town has the site of "Wei Wangcheng" built in 280 BC. In order to carry forward the long history and culture of Huayuan Town, Huayuan Town Charity Association and Huayuan Town Economic Chamber of Commerce began to rebuild the former residence of Bi Xia Yuan Jun in Wangmudian Village, the former site of Bi Xia Temple, from March 2006 to February 2008. The former residence covers an area of 100 mu, with a construction area of 6,000 square meters, including Bi Xia Temple and Wang Mu. Wenchang Hall, God of Wealth Temple, Wang Yaodian, Guanyin Hall, etc. Qiao Ming, Sun Moon Lake, Transhipment Pavilion, Yingbin Square, Stone Archway and other classical buildings show the long history and culture of huayuan town.
