Jiangsu Provincial People's Government approved the establishment on 1983, and was promoted to a national nature reserve with the approval of the State Council on 1992. In the same year, 1 1 was approved as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO's World Coordinating Council for Man and Biosphere, becoming the ninth member of China's "World Biosphere Reserve Network", and 1999 was included in "East Asia". Yancheng Red-crowned Crane Reserve is the largest coastal wetland reserve in China, with a coastline of 587 kilometers and a total area of 453,000 hectares. The core area is located between Doulong Port and Xinyang Port, with an area of 6.5438+0.74 million hectares, which mainly protects rare wild animals such as red-crowned cranes and the tidal flat wetland ecosystem on which they depend. There are 12 species of national key protected wild animals such as red-crowned crane, white-headed crane and white crane in the nature reserve, and 67 species of national second-class key protected wild animals. Every year, more than 1000 red-crowned cranes come to this area for the winter, accounting for more than 50% of the world's wild population. Sheyang River Estuary Scenic Area is located in the lower reaches of Sheyang River and in Haitong Town, including the north-south extension of Zhiyuba and Sheyang River.

In particular, the Ming Lake formed by Sheyang River cutting the bay has a total length of17.5km and an average water depth of10m. The two sides have beautiful scenery and rich plant resources. According to the plan, the future Sheyang River Scenic Area will be built according to the pattern of "one park, five districts and one belt". "One Park" refers to Sheyang Island Ecological Sports Park; "Five Districts" refer to Xixin Temple religious and cultural district, Hu Ming tourism and leisure district, Sheyang River Gate tourist district, Sheyang Port tourist district and Haitong Forest Resort; "Belt" refers to the landscape belt of Sheyang Riverside Line.
