Shimen is an ancient town in northern Zhejiang. During the Spring and Autumn Period, Wu Yue argued that "Shimen was confined to wuyue" (Volume I of Shimen County Records of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty), hence the name Shimen. Shimen Post was set up in Tang Dynasty. In the Southern Song Dynasty, Shimen Post set up a pavilion, which was the palace visited by the emperor. There are also alcohol services and taxes. Yuan set up the inspection department and the tax bureau, and became the military and transportation center on the canal.

After the establishment of Tongxiang County in the fifth year of Xuande in Ming Dynasty (1430), the town was bounded by Miaotang Lane, called Shiwan in the east, belonging to Tongxiang County, and Shimen and Lichongde counties in the west.

During the Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty (1662 ~ 1722), Chongde County was changed to Shimen County, and Shimen Town was renamed Yuxi Town.

In the 3rd year of the Republic of China (19 14), Shimen County was renamed Chongde County, and Yuxi Town was renamed Shimen Town. During the Republic of China, Shiwan and Shimen were still divided into Tongxiang and Chongde counties. In May, 1950, Shimen and Shiwan merged into one town, called Shimen Town, which belongs to Chongde County.

There is an ancient village in Shimen called Guihua Village. It is said that a dragon boat once docked here. When Gan Long sailed to the south of the Yangtze River, it was the Mid-Autumn Festival and osmanthus was in full bloom. As soon as the dragon boat crossed Shimen Bay, a fragrance came to my face. The farther south the ship goes, the stronger the fragrance becomes. Gan Long urgently ordered the ship to stop and followed the scent. He drank osmanthus wine under the osmanthus tree and refused to go back for a long time. Later, he ordered people to camp in Shimen, and every time he made a southern tour, he would visit Guihua Village.
