Yantai, an ancient place of Dongyi nationality. Dongyi nationality was founded here in Xia Dynasty (where Laizhou city crossed the west today). The Shang, Western Zhou and Spring and Autumn Dynasties were the land of Lai, the Warring States belonged to Qi, the Qin Dynasty to Qi County, the Han Dynasty to Donglai County, the Jin Dynasty to Donglai County, the Southern and Northern Dynasties to Donglai and Changguang County, the Sui Dynasty to Laizhou, the Tang Dynasty to Dengzhou and Laizhou, and the Song and Yuan Dynasties. On February 4th, 1862, the garrison road of Denglaiqing was moved from Laizhou to Yantai, with Chongfang as the supervisor of the East Customs. In 1914, it was renamed Denglai Green Jiaodao, which governs Dengzhou, Laizhou, Qingzhou and Jiaozhou.

on October 2, 1911, the Shandong branch of the League held a ceremony in Yantai. On March 3rd, Shandong military government was established (the next day, it was changed to Yantai military and political sub-government). At the beginning of the Republic of China, the government and state were abolished.

In May of p>1914, Jiaodong Road was established to administer Yantai. In 1925, it was Donghai Road.

In p>1932, the Civil Affairs Department of Zhili Province, Yantai Special Zone. In 1945, Yantai Administrative Region was established. In 1947, Yantai was set as a provincial city.

At the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China, today Yantai was under the jurisdiction of Wendeng Special Zone, Laiyang Special Zone and Yantai City, and was subordinate to the Shandong Provincial Government.

In p>1956, Wendeng Special Zone was abolished and merged into Laiyang Special Zone, which has jurisdiction over 1 city and 15 counties, namely Weihai City (county level), Wendeng County, Rushan County, Rongcheng County, Laiyang County, Yexian County, Qixia County, Huangxian County, Penglai County, Changdao County, Fushan County, Zhaoyuan County, Muping County, Haiyang County and Laixi County (1988).

in p>1958, Laiyang area was changed to Yantai area, and its administrative jurisdiction is equivalent to all of Yantai and Weihai and a part of Qingdao.

in p>1967, Yantai area was changed to Yantai area, directly under the provincial government.

in p>1983, Yantai area was changed to Yantai city (prefecture-level city), and the county was governed by the city. The original Fushan County and Yantai City (county-level city) were changed to Fushan District and Zhifu District respectively, and Yantai City has jurisdiction over 2 districts, 1 cities and 12 counties.
