Marriott will continue to give away 50% of room nights based on membership earned in 2020, which will arrive at the end of February this year.
Memberships earned through stays or challenges in 2020 will definitely give away 50% room nights in 2021.Memberships deferred over in 2019 will theoretically give away 50% room nights as well (subject to finalization of the official announcement).
Speculation is that Marriott's goal is to get people to take the initiative to secure or upgrade to a higher tier of membership this year, and therefore reduce the difficulty of securing it:
If you're a Marriott Platinum, for example, Marriott is giving you 25 room nights this year, and you can complete the securing of your membership, which is valid until February 2023, by staying another 25 room nights.
But you think you've already stayed 25 room nights and you're going to keep staying anyway, so you might as well stay 50 room nights and upgrade to Titanium, which is also valid until February 2023 (Marriott's goal is achieved).

New Q1 issue coming soon
Possibly for fear of being upstaged by other hotel groups, Marriott has already launched a new Q1 issue. Marriott has gone live with the new installment of its Q1 campaign.
Basic info: stay 2 or more consecutive nights between February 16 and April 27, 2021, and earn double points and double room nights.
While you need to stay at least 2 consecutive nights, this is a very important event for those looking to retain or upgrade this year, and when combined with the 50% room nights given above, it's the equivalent of a double-double discount.
For example, if you're a Marriott Platinum and have already received 25 room nights from Marriott, you can complete the reclassification by staying another 25 room nights, which combined with the Q1 campaign actually only requires a 13-night stay.
And if you want to stay 50 room nights to upgrade to Titanium, you'll actually only need to stay 25 nights in conjunction with the Q1 campaign.
And, here's more important information:
According to the rules, redeeming points rooms that include at least one paid night can count toward the Double Points and Double Room Night promotions.
How to complete a points room + paid stayThe easiest, for sure, is to book 1 night in a points room and 1 night in a paid room, but whether this counts as 2 consecutive nights and both get double room nights needs to be tested.
There's another idea that's even more feasible, as we all know Marriott points rooms get 1 free night for every 5 consecutive nights booked.
These 5 nights can actually be inserted into 1 paid night, so for 6 consecutive nights, you could theoretically get 12 room nights, which would be helpful for those who are looking to secure an upgrade this year.
Specifically, you can do the following (Marriott's official website is available in both English and Chinese):
1. Log in to the official website, choose a stay of 6 nights or more, and I chose Suzhou for 6 nights, and check the box to redeem points:
2. Choose any hotel, and I chose the Wanfeng Hotel in Suzhou High-tech District, and click on the VIEWRATES:
3. CUSTOMIZEPAYMENTS, you can see the details of each night:
4, you can see, exempted a night points room, change one of the night for the paid to stay, point PREVIEWCOMBINATION:
5, the final is the cost of a night of paid +4 night points, *** count 334 yuan +21000 points:
This makes 6 consecutive nights, 12 room nights according to the rules, and points are purchased from the official at $550/million, costing a total of $1,434, or $239 per night.
Combined with our latest retention policy for 2021 in Part 1, it's still a bit of a stretch to see the Platinum card retention by doing this only 2 times, 4 upgrades to the Titanium card, and 3 retentions for the Titanium card.
But with anything, you should live within your means. Adults should weigh the pros and cons, recognize what they need, and not do unnecessary waste~
