The origin of the World Expo
In the ancient agrarian societies, people often carried out trading activities in the festivals to celebrate the harvest, religious ceremonies, and festivals, and then it gradually developed into the large-scale trade and exhibition gatherings on a regular basis and in a fixed place for the purpose of exchanging goods. This is the earliest form of the World Expo. In the 5th century A.D., Persia held the first exhibition beyond the function of the bazaar, and in the 18th century, with the emergence of new technologies and new products, people gradually thought of organizing exhibitions similar to the bazaar, but only exhibition, not sales, to publicize and display new products and achievements for the purpose of the exhibition. 1791 Czech Republic in the capital city of Prague for the first time to hold such an exhibition. After World War II, the world's people rebuilt their homes on the ruins of a devastated landscape, and on the basis of restoring production and reviving the economy, the first post-war World's Fair was held in 1958 in Brussels, Belgium, on the theme of "Science, Civilization and Humanity". In order to reflect this theme of science, the Brussels World Expo built an atomic energy structure of the spherical pavilion, representing the human race into the new century of scientific and technological progress symbolized by its unique and innovative shape, although after almost half a century, but still vivid in the memory. A world exposition is an international large-scale exhibition hosted by the government of a country, with the participation of several countries or international organizations, in order to show the achievements of mankind in the fields of society, economy, culture, and science and technology. It is characterized by its long duration, large scale, many participating countries and far-reaching influence.
Since the first exhibition was held in London, England in 1851, the World Expo has enjoyed the reputation of "the Olympic Games in the fields of economy, science and technology, and culture" because of its rapid development, and has been held for 40 times successively. According to the latest regulations of the International Exhibition Bureau, the World Expo is divided into two kinds according to its nature, scale and exhibition period: one is a registered class (formerly known as comprehensive) World Expo, the exhibition period is usually 6 months, and it is held once every 5 years; the other is an accredited class (formerly known as professional) World Expo, the exhibition period is usually 3 months, and it is held once in between two registered classes of World Expo. Unlike general trade promotion and economic investment fairs, registration category world expositions are the highest level expositions in the world.
The International Exhibition Bureau (IEB) is an international intergovernmental organization specializing in supervising and guaranteeing the implementation of the Convention on International Exhibitions, coordinating and managing the holding of world expositions and guaranteeing the level of world expositions, with 89 member countries as of November 2002, and China was formally admitted to be the 46th member country of the Bureau in May 1993, according to the election rules. According to the election rules, each member of the IB, regardless of its size, has one vote in the election. In the first round of voting, if a candidate city receives more than two-thirds of the votes, it will become the host city of the 2010 World Expo.
