This minimum wage adjustment plan has been adopted by the executive meeting of the Shenzhen Municipal Government a few days ago.
According to this adjustment plan, in 2008, the minimum wage in Shenzhen Special Zone (Futian District, Luohu District, Yantian District and Nanshan District) was 1000 yuan/month, an increase of17.6% over the previous year; The minimum wage outside the Special Zone (Baoan District and Longgang District) is 900 yuan/month, up by 20% over the previous year.
At present, the minimum wages in and out of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone are 850 yuan/month and 750 yuan/month respectively. After the adjustment, the minimum wage in Shenzhen will once again exceed the current 960 yuan/month in Shanghai and 860 yuan/month in Guangzhou, temporarily being the highest in the country.
Li Ming, deputy mayor of Shenzhen, said in an interview with the media that the substantial increase in the minimum wage in Shenzhen is intended to further implement the Shenzhen net welfare index system, enhance the competitiveness of Shenzhen, attract talents, and help solve problems such as "recruitment difficulties".
At present, there are more than 7 million migrant workers in Shenzhen, which is one of the cities with the largest number of labor transfer jobs in China. However, due to the continuous expansion of employment demand, there has been an obvious employment gap in Shenzhen in recent years. According to the latest statistics of Shenzhen Labor Department, the employment gap reached 740,000 in the first quarter of this year, mainly concentrated in manufacturing, computer, resident service, hotel catering, logistics and other industries.
Earlier, Li Tao, deputy director of Shenzhen Labor and Social Security Bureau, said in an interview with the media that the current minimum wage in Shenzhen only accounts for 29% of the average wage of employees, and efforts will be made to gradually make the minimum wage in Shenzhen reach the goal of 40% of the average wage of employees in the future.
