I'm Li Yin, and I'm 33 years old.
I have worked in brand hotels of Starwood, Windham, Hilton, Wanda and Langham House.
In 8 years, I started as a waiter and became the manager of the catering department.
then why did I transform from a well-known international hotel catering manager?
please listen to me to tell my career story-
with enthusiasm, I embarked on the road of hotel upgrading for eight years
in p>2118, I graduated from university and majored in hotel management.
It was enviable to work in an international brand hotel at that time. With the Beijing Olympic Games, the domestic hotel industry is booming.
Especially in Dongguan and Shenzhen, many well-known hotels entered the market. At that time, their consumption levels were relatively high, and the requirements for selecting talents were also very high.
These well-known hotels have requirements for the oral English and academic qualifications of service personnel, and some even set hard targets for their height.
My first job was in Sheraton. In just six months, I was promoted, which was a great encouragement to me.
At that time, star-rated hotels were high-end places, and all the customers I came into contact with were middle and high-end people.
many customers are CEOs of companies, and the proportion of foreign guests is also high, and the tips are also rich.
in addition to high income, the hotel also provides accommodation and catering, and even shuttle bus and laundry service, with excellent conditions.
I have made a lot of efforts for the industry I love.
Later, I moved to the Supreme Hotel in Windham to prepare for the opening of the hotel.
at that time, it was required to start business on October 9th, but the hard suit just finished on October 1th.
I led a team of 28 people and moved the sofa in the rain in just five days to complete all the soft furnishings.
on October 5th, the hotel's food and beverage department was successfully put into trial operation and officially opened on October 9th.
Later, I went to work in Wanda Group.
at that time, Wanda Nanchang amusement park was opened, and the group attached great importance to it, and selected 1-2 staff members from each hotel to receive the opening ceremony.
each staff member is connected to a Wanda leader and acts as a personal butler. The guests we received also include Mr. President.
I feel a little nervous and excited, and I am also very proud.
From preparation, rehearsal to reception,
No matter the distance between cups, the angle of serving, or the pronunciation and intonation of greeting ...
We practice all the details repeatedly to make it the best. Even when we served tea, we practiced it for more than five times.
This made me realize that the more rigorous things I need, the more I need to practice hard and repeatedly.
during these eight years, the hotel industry has made me grow a lot.
At that time, the training mechanism was also perfect. We had to learn catering management, inventory management and so on, and the training from foreman, manager to supervisor was very clear.
I led the team to run the restaurant, and my performance improved significantly, and I also trained three restaurant managers.
in the process of managing the restaurant, I met guests from all walks of life and made friends with many of them.
foreign brands are everywhere, and the competition in the hotel industry is becoming more and more fierce.
Eight years later, I still love the hotel industry, but the market environment has changed a lot.
Just as people used to think that flying is "luxury", it has become the norm now, and so does the consumption experience of star-rated hotels.
For external reasons-
First, foreign brand hotels have blossomed everywhere in recent years.
The rise of more and more Airbnb and B&Bs has made consumers' choices more diversified, resulting in a sharp decline in hotel competitiveness.
the hotel's operation focuses on assets and properties, with high cost loss. All vegetables, wine and daily necessities need a lot of inventory, and the operating cost can be imagined.
With the reform of the camp, both suppliers and hotels have to pay more taxes, and the cost is increasing year by year.
second, the consumer's concept has also changed. The new generation of consumers like more novel and diversified experiences, and have less loyalty to hotel brands.
For example, in 2118, many star-rated hotels sold buffets for more than 311 yuan each, but now they can only sell more than 1,111 yuan.
for hotels, it is becoming more and more difficult to make money not only by attracting guests with good catering quality, but also by satisfying their pursuit of cost performance.
in order to cope with these changes in environment and consumption habits and maintain quality, hotels can only cut costs manually.
Many restaurants with 211 seats used to have 31 people, but now there are only a dozen people.
for hotels, there is also the problem of brain drain.
Nowadays, there are more employment opportunities in society, and the rise of media industry has made young people reluctant to engage in traditional industries, especially service industries. Hotels can only find temporary workers to replace them from selecting people to being selected.
personally, I have encountered several obstacles in the hotel industry.
first of all, it is difficult to recruit people, which has a direct impact on the middle management of hotels. Because of the high mobility of newcomers, I have been training newcomers repeatedly in middle management positions.
There is no long-term development plan for the grass-roots waiters in the hotel, which leads the management to keep doing basic work and has no time and opportunity to improve themselves.
I stayed up for a while and thought I could get a promotion.
during a reception team meeting, I saw the food and beverage director personally lead the staff to be busy from 6 am to 2 am, for several days.
the activity is over, and I can't sleep. I thought it would be easier to be at the top, but in the director, I saw myself three or five years later.
The promotion opportunity I have been waiting for was also given to an acquaintance by the new foreign general manager.
besides the difficulty of promotion, I have met unreasonable guests.
I met a guest who came to the buffet and insisted on packing and taking away. We patiently explained the rules to him, but we were still complained.
from the waiter, the manager on duty to the general manager of the food and beverage department, we spent a lot of time and energy on this matter, but in the end, we not only apologized to this guest, but also presented a coupon.
At that time, I felt very bad. Although the service industry paid attention to "customer first", I felt that I was not respected.
We regard our guests as friends, but some guests stand on our opposite side, which breaks my heart.
Determined to transform, taking the initiative to choose the insurance industry
Changes in the general environment and my own development have prompted me to consider changing careers.
I came to an internet company and started from scratch, trying to be an online shopping mall of the hotel and learning how to play the Internet.
in the past six months, I took my team to do business development, and pulled the performance of South China from the second lowest in the country to the second.
However, the intensity of the Internet industry makes it hard for me to cope. On New Year's Eve, there was a Bug in our program. I was eating jiaozi, so I immediately put down my bowl to deal with the problem.
The Internet industry makes me have no time of my own, I can't keep up physically, I can't see the future development, and I feel insecure.
I've tried traditional industries and Internet industries, but I still haven't found an ideal working condition.
I want a job where I can keep learning and growing, where my efforts and gains can be in direct proportion, and I won't be treated unfairly in the workplace. I hope my income is not lower than before, but I can better balance my family and work.
I still hope to stay in the service industry, because I like to communicate face to face with others.
after I left the internet industry, I returned to Shenzhen from Guangzhou and suddenly realized why I didn't try the insurance industry.
My family had the experience of critical illness insurance claims in 2111, and they were quite approved of insurance, but they were worried that I didn't have relevant experience and I was afraid that I would suffer hardships, and they didn't support it at first.
I had a formal talk with my family and set myself a one-year deadline. If my income can't catch up with the past, I will give up and go back to the hotel industry.
in fact, why choose the insurance industry? I've thought it over.
the insurance industry and the hotel industry have a lot in common.
My past experience in handling customer complaints has given me a good listening ability, which is very important for insurance salesmen.
professional social etiquette and communication methods make it easy for me to gain the trust of customers, and a strong sense of service will also give insurance customers a better experience.
so many years of management experience in the hotel gave me the courage and confidence to try the insurance industry, and I took the initiative to contact Shenzhen AIA.
after I officially set foot in the insurance industry, I was deeply impressed by several points.
for myself, when I first joined the hotel, the professional and systematic training in the hotel made me grow a lot. In AIA, too, AIA's training is advanced. Newcomer training not only helps me to have a deep understanding of insurance products and services quickly, but also gives me a clear career planning path.
AIA's working mode is more flexible, and it can adjust its working rhythm and manage its own time. All performance and promotion systems are also more open and transparent.
in the hotel, I have taken over teams, big or small, and I have a lot of experience in managing teams and cultivating new people, which makes me more comfortable in cultivating teams now.
from the perspective of people-to-people communication, I have forged stronger ties with customers since I came to AIA.
I used to serve many guests in the hotel's food and beverage department, but after dinner or activities, our relationship became weak.
But now, from the moment I signed the insurance policy, I have participated in many important moments in my clients' lives and provided lifelong service, which made me feel more self-worth and sense of mission.
I also prefer the current working atmosphere. Sharing culture allows everyone to communicate and learn from each other on an equal footing.
hotels pay attention to brand building, so does AIA, and every salesman is also building his own brand.
Although I have only been in AIA for one year, I have grown a lot. I have learned to accept negation, become more tolerant, and have a more positive attitude towards work and life.
compared with the previous state of being confused and unable to see the future in the hotel industry, I have a clear short-term and long-term plan for the future. I hope to become a director and meet the M-Club standards within five years.
The introduction of AIA inheritance system gives me a chance to truly fulfill my lifelong commitment to customer service as long as I meet the standards. My life is full of positive energy. I used to think that I would work in the industry I love all my life, but I didn't realize that I could have a broader life stage and a brighter future until I jumped out of my familiar field!
