This year, LonelyPlanet announced a list of the top ten best travel areas of 2019, Elqui Valley, Chile, on the list. The Elqui Valley is the heart of Chile's Pisco wine production. It's known for its futuristic observatories, explorers of cosmic energy, frequent UFO sightings and quaint villages.

February is a favorite Chilean vacation time, so why not rent a bike and explore the charming villages around Pisco Elqui! Sample some Pisco, visit the artisanal Pisco distillery FundoLosNichos, and make your way to the artisanal market of Holcón.

If you're interested in natural beauty, head to English Bay! Rocky outcrops towering over turquoise waters and long stretches of white sandy beaches make this a pleasant seaside resort. It has a Mediterranean feel and a lovely esplanade to walk along. The locally caught scallops, oysters and seaweed are delicious for cooking.

Tahiti

When: year-round

Mention Valentine's Day, and you have to talk about Tahiti, perennially ranked in the top of the list of dream honeymoon destinations, a friendly and vibrant place with its eyes wide open.

Whether it's the vast _lagoon_ of Tuamotu Atoll, the Marquesas Islands with their rich culture, or the mountainous Society Islands, you'll be constantly surprised.

You can hike up a waterfall valley, canoe in a turquoise _lagoon_, or dive in a seaway and have a chance encounter with a shark. You can also stay at one of the best watering-house resorts featured in the book, and have a little drink with your darling TA on the sea terrace.

Tahiti, the largest of the French Polynesian islands in the South Pacific, lacks long stretches of white beaches, but has lush mountains with waterfalls, rustic and beautiful black sand beaches, blue protected _ lakes and a uniquely Polynesian modern boom

Mooreboro, New Zealand

Time: February 9

It's sunny in New Zealand in February. The kids are back in school too, the sauvignon blanc is just about ready, and it's the best party time in all of New Zealand.

The Moorborough Wine Festival is New Zealand's best and biggest wine festival, where you can sample wines from more than 50 wineries in the Moorborough region, along with fine dining and plenty of entertainment. This boozy festival is usually held on a Saturday in early February.

Moorborough is New Zealand's wine town, with about 3/4 of the country's wine produced here. The region's abundant sunshine and wide temperature range provide perfect conditions for growing grapes, and wandering through the tasting rooms or eating under the vines is a classic South Island experience.

Indulge yourself in Mooreboro's sea of fine wines, including high-quality cellared Sauvignon Blanc, Vacheron Constantin, Pinot Noir and Champagne, which you can enjoy alongside the local cuisine.

Baja California, Mexico

When: February-April

Baja California is famous for whale watching at the beginning of each year. Gray whales have to swim 10,000 kilometers from the Arctic to give birth to their babies in the coastal waters here.

The gray whale migration from Siberian and Alaskan waters to Lake Baja_ is a very surprising animal behavior. In their habitats in Lakes Ohodrevre and San Ignacio, the 700-kilogram whale calves will try their first breaths and begin to learn to familiarize themselves with the ocean from their ever-vigilant mothers.

The migratory season is long, though often variable, as some whales arrive early in Pacific _Lagoon_, while others take weeks or months to round the Horn of the Earth and find their favorite bays in Coster waters.

February through early April are the peak months for viewing mothers and whale calves in _Lake, though the official whale-watching season begins Dec. 15 and runs through April 15 of the following year.

Bodna, Nepal

Time: Feb. 5

When winter sets in it's a great time to get out to Nepal, when there are fewer tourists and low altitude treks or trips to the national parks of the Tarai are great options.

This year, Nepal's Tibetan New Year and Chinese New Year actually fall on the same day! In Nepal, Tibetans from Dolpo to Khumbu districts celebrate their New Year with float parades, religious ceremonies or pujas, and fluttering meridian streamers.

People in Bodnar come together to celebrate the Tibetan New Year. People parade through the streets blowing long brass horns, thousands of pilgrims flock to stupas, and lamas in nearby Buddhist monasteries perform masked dances (religious dances).

Many festivals in Nepal have special festive foods. When the Tibetan New Year arrives, a soup of dumplings called gutuk is eaten, and the dumplings are ceremonially poured, which symbolizes the pouring out of bad luck.

Venice, Italy

When: Feb. 16-March 5

Venice Carnival (CarnevaleVenizia) is as glamorous as the Rio Carnival, the world's most famous baroque masquerade.

Dating back to at least the 15th century, the festival's official start time is around 16:00 on Saturday, when the masked procession sets off from PiazzaSanMarco.

Highlights include the Grand Duke's Ball - in fact, all you have to do is dress up. There's also a parade of decorated boats and gondolas on the Grand Canal, and many other activities outside of the themed events.

The city's squares are packed with street performers, and St. Paul's Square sometimes has an ice rink. Buy a mask and immerse yourself in the carnival atmosphere!

Hawaii, USA

Time: February-April

The word Hawaii probably holds many people's first vision of the ocean, and the whole world knows that the people of this place love to dance in grass skirts and their 666 way of saying hello.

In Hawaii, in addition to the hot beaches where you can surf and dance on coconut shells, you can also see the crater of a volcano bubbling with molten lava not far away, and a special experience that will definitely make you go "wow"! Speaking of food? The diverse cultures of the region have made it possible for the local cuisine to satisfy all kinds of appetites.

Going to Kuala Lununu (Honolulu), an island with a cartoon-like name, in the winter and enjoying its shimmering blue sandy shores is an absolute vacation standard.

If you like to explore, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is also a good choice. With crisscrossing trails surrounding lava flows and air vents, you'll be in a trance thinking it's just inches of wilderness.

Kyoto, Japan

When: February 3

According to the traditional lunar calendar, the first day of spring was once thought to herald disaster. So as a precaution, people would visit temples, throw baked beans and shout prayers.

The Setsubun Matsuri festival, which Japan learned from China in the 8th century, was designed to ward off evil spirits. How is it done? It involves scattering a large pile of beans to the left and right of the body. Participants gather at temples and shrines and scatter the beans while shouting, "Ghosts out! Blessed beings come in!" (Oniwasoto! Fukuwauchi).

According to the legend, after scattering the beans, you have to pick up a number of beans equal to your age from the ground and eat them, as well as a couple of steaming beanbags along the way.

While Setsubun is celebrated all over Japan, a trip to Kyoto is a much better option for a traditional retro festival atmosphere.

Well, if you don't know where to travel in February, take a cue from my advice!
