Rizhao, a prefecture-level city in the southeast of Shandong Province. Rizhao, Zhou belongs to Jundi, Qin belongs to Langya County, Haiqu County in the Western Han Dynasty, Chengyang County in the Three Kingdoms Wei Dynasty and Liangxiang County in the Northern Wei Dynasty. Sui Dynasty belongs to Juxian County, Langya County, and Tang and Song Dynasties to Mizhou. 1087 (in the second year of Song Dynasty), Rizhao Town was located in Juxian County, hence the name of Rizhao. Rizhao County was established in 1 184 (twenty-four years of Jin Dading) and belongs to Juzhou, Yidufu. Yuan and Ming dynasties followed. Qing belongs to Yizhou Prefecture. 1June 1989, Rizhao was upgraded to a prefecture-level city.

Rizhao City is located in the southeast of Shandong Province, bordering the Yellow Sea in the east, Linyi City in the west, Lianyungang City in Jiangsu Province in the south, Qingdao City and Weifang City in the north. It is about 82 kilometers long from north to south and 90 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 5358.57 square kilometers.
