The two days I spent the night at Kunming Changshui Airport: how I discovered the airport's niche overnight treasures
It was 1:30am when I landed at Kunming Changshui Airport.

After surviving the 6 hours in the wee hours of the morning, I was able to wait until first light to get on the airport bus to downtown Kunming to continue my next leg of the trip on the train from Kunming to Chengdu that night, as originally planned. So I did a lot of homework on how to spend the night at Changshui Airport (comfortably) before the trip started.

After picking up my luggage from international arrivals, I thought the airport would be a bit chilly in the early hours of the morning, like the streets of a city in the wee hours of the morning, which are only lively when travelers are arriving ...... But it wasn't, and while the city was already in a deep slumber, Changshui Airport was bustling with activity, still as if the people here were here to The first thing you need to do is to get a good deal of money to pay for the services you need.

A variety of people with names and "accommodation" signs wandered through the arrivals hall, and people with large bags of luggage gathered in twos and threes, some talking to each other, and some finding an acreage to cover their heads with their hats, as if they had already fallen asleep. I quickly walked past the people in search of the legendary M Kee and Kaifeng Cuisine.

But when I found the M record and Kaifeng Cuisine, there were just too many people there, eating, playing games and watching dramas with amplified sound on, chatting, listening to songs ...... and of course there were also people lying on the table and sleeping ...... Seeking a circle, I did not did not find a comfortable position that can lie horizontally, then left.

Legend has it that there are long tables and chairs in Star Daddy that can lie very comfortably and are relatively quiet. But given that I really did not find Star Daddy, here skimmed over the table.

At around 1:50, I arrived at the departure level.

It does have a lot of seating, but there were quite a few people already gathered by the time I got there. Along the way I looked for one of those nice seats where you can lie horizontally, but that had long since been taken and there was no possibility of even squeezing in.

It wasn't until I got to the end of the line that I found a couple of empty seats that were connected together, but each of the two seats came with a handle in the middle - an anti-human design that made me want to find a saw and saw the hand off. I tried unsuccessfully to cram my huge frame into the small space under the handle, so I had to sleep sitting up, and with the near-90-degree back of the seat, it was very uncomfortable for me to have my head lowered forward, or tilted back. But I was so sleepy that I fell asleep a few times.

Half asleep, I heard someone in my ear asking me:

"Exchange? Thai baht dollar can be oh ...... I here than the bank to affordable oh - ......"

I was struggling a little my eyelids, did not open, sleepy to have no strength to let the person hurry away from me, do not disturb me I'm not going to be able to do that. The other side may be to see that time to sell things to me is really not a wise move, said the voice in my ears disappeared.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to sleep on my neck, so I'm not going to sleep, I'm going to carry my bag, and I'm going to go look for something to eat.

At 2:30, I bought my last bowl of congee at Kaifeng Cuisine. Not only did I get a steaming bowl of congee, but I also got free hot water!

My last trip was to Thailand, and in Bangkok, you have to pay for a glass of plain boiled water in a restaurant. Usually, the locals drink ice water. I remember I went to the inn to find the boss to borrow a kettle, the boss rummaged around for a long time, only to turn out a long time not used out of the hot water - probably, only the Chinese people all over the world to find hot water to drink, right?

So when I held my little kettle, weakly asked the waitress in the open dish, can I give me a cup of hot water, the lady is very natural to respond to a cup of hot water for me to pour a cup of hot water - wow! A cup full of free hot water! I was inexplicably excited inside.

After slowly finishing the bowl of porridge, sleepiness slowly came on, except that Kaifeng Cuisine is really not a good place to sleep. I slumped over the table for a while, unable to sleep, so I got up and looked for other places I could sleep.

I still made it back to the departure lounge, but by then my original seat had been taken by someone else.

At 3:00, walking up a small staircase from the departure lounge to a floor with a lot of food and beverage outlets, I found my familiar bridge rice noodle store: Qiaoxiangyuan.

All the restaurants on this floor are closed at this time, and the doors are sealed to prevent travelers from entering, but I was lucky enough to find an opening to enter Qiaoxiangyuan, and when I saw that no one was there, I shamelessly entered the store, thinking that I wanted to eat the rice noodle in the morning, and that I would come in a couple of hours earlier to wait for the food.

This is probably the most satisfying place I've found so far. The tables are high enough to block my presence, and the soft leather chairs are put together so that I can put myself completely across them, which is super comfortable.

I was expecting this store to be deserted, but I remember waking up halfway through to get a drink of water and absently looking around and noticing what appeared to be a couple of umbrellas dangling from the seats in the area not far ahead of me, and on closer inspection, that's when I realized that almost all of the seats over there were full of people sleeping, but it didn't look like he-they were travelers so much as they were the waiters in the restaurant. And it seems that some of them found me, looked at me, the other side did not want to drive me away, I also pretend not to be discovered as if continue to sleep.

This time I slept until I got up the next morning. The rustling sound of waiters getting up one after another in the restaurant woke me up.

At 7:50am, I had the rice noodle dish I had been craving.

It was the same familiar flavor that you can only get in Yunnan. Although I'm not in my hometown at the moment, and my next journey is still a long way away, but the imprint of the food has been burned into the bottom of the heart, the familiar flavor from the depths of the heart to be awakened, in this moment, I feel y: I'm back home, back to my motherland - especially when I drink hot water can be unlimited refills, hahaha!

I had planned to take the evening train so that I could sleep my way to Chengdu to meet up with my friends. But when I was lining up to pick up my ticket at the Kunming train station, I was told that the K166 train from Kunming to Chengdu via Panzhihua was out of service due to heavy rain and landslides. The last train to Chengdu will be at least three days later, which means that my booking in Chengdu and the trip will all be in vain.

My friend, on the other hand, took a high-speed train from Guangdong to Chengdu, and her train was running normally. If we had followed the original plan, we would have arrived at about the same time.

While many of the passengers around me on the same K166 train were still asking around about whether the train was really out of service and what to do, I kept swiping various transportation tickets to various destinations, and finally got a ticket from Kunming Changshui Airport to Chongqing Jiangbei Airport at some point in time, an early morning flight, in first class - and even cheaper than economy class. -First class is even cheaper than economy class. Right after I quickly paid for it, I got a text message that the airfare had gone up, but the difference was covered by a third-party company, kudos!

Big picture, back to the airport!

Returning to Changshui Airport for another overnight stay was a breeze.

So when the stores were closing, I went back to the Bridge and tried to sleep on the beautiful leather sofa. But found that the hole left behind that day, has been sealed by greenery, can not enter. Probably the last time I came to sleep was discovered, people embarrassed to drive away my sleepy, tired and delicate little girl, so today simply blocked all the entrances tightly, do not let me go in.

Well, we'll have to find another place.

I went back to the pile of seats at the end of the departure level, and realized that there was a circular counter in front of those seats, which might be relatively quiet.

When I got around to the back of the circular counter, I was shocked: I didn't realize that there were people hiding inside what looked like a small area from the outside. Some people look like they often spend the night in Changshui Airport, put their backpacks, skillfully laid out a sleeping bag on the ground, took out a small blanket, quickly into the sleeping bag on the head to sleep.

And the counter has two desktops, a little wider and shorter, just enough to sleep a person's width; a little higher and narrower, just enough to perfectly cover the height of the person sleeping in the back of the kind of height. At this time a corner of that counter, there is already a person put his bag on the desktop, ready to climb up.

Such a beautiful scenery, colorful feng shui treasure, where to find oh!

This is the first time I've ever seen a man with a bag on his desktop. I put my bag on the desktop as a pillow, took out my woolen shawl as a quilt, climbed up on the desk, and lay down with my head facing inward, and began to sleep.

I don't know what time in the morning I slept, but I woke up freezing. I woke up to find another new arrival sleeping under my feet, and in the small area surrounded by the circular counter, on the countertop, under the counter, on the floor, wherever a person could sleep, it was now filled with people one after another.

Although this table is just too comfortable, far better than the noisy and sleep-only seats at M Kee Kai Fong, I felt that if I continued to sleep here, I might catch a cold from the cold. So I put my stuff away and put on my backpack to find a new warm place to sleep.

When I arrived at level B3, I saw that it was full of those sit-down massage chairs, and they were almost all full when I got there, and there were even people gathering together to whisper, eat, and do all sorts of messy things, which made the whole lounge so noisy that it was impossible to sleep. I turned around and left.

I went to the restroom purely thinking that there were electrical appliances in the restroom, so maybe I could find an outlet to charge my phone?

Then I found the mother and baby room next to the toilet, not only was the place spacious and empty, but it was also full of charging sockets and soft sofas, so it was really a feng shui place to spend the night. (Will the room start to fill up after this post? I don't know if I'll ever be able to get a full house after this post.)

I had a good night's sleep and even my phone was fully charged.

In the morning, I woke up and boarded an early flight to Chongqing, and then took the high-speed train from Chongqing to Chengdu, as if the suspension of the K166 train did not have any impact on my itinerary after that, which was perfect.

Conclusion: Spending a night at Changshui Airport requires a pair of eyes to discover the beauty of the city.
