Shanghai Peace Hotel was built in 1929, formerly known as Huamao Hotel. It is a Gothic building of Chicago School, with a height of 77 meters and 12 floors. The Huamao Hotel was built by Alice Victor Sasson, a British Jew who was rich at that time. The external wall was made of granite stones and entered through the rotating hall door. The lobby floor was paved with ivory Italian marble, and the ceiling was decorated with bronze chandeliers, which was luxurious and elegant and had the reputation of "the first building in the Far East".
