From January to August 2021, the number of patent applications and the number of patents granted in the global blockchain industry were 4,537 and 324, respectively, with the proportion of authorization at 7.09%. As of August 30, 2021, the number of patent applications in the global blockchain industry is 43,000 items.
Note: ①The patent grant rate indicates the efficiency of the application and the success rate of the submitted application that was eventually granted.
②Statistical note: If a 2012 patent application is granted in 2014, the granted patent will be shown in the 2012 patent application.
(3) Patent Legal Status: "Pending" Patents Predominate
Currently, most of the global blockchain patents are in the "pending" and "valid" states. Currently, most of the global blockchain patents are in the "pending" and "valid" status, and the total number of blockchain patents in these two statuses is 31,200 and 10,500 respectively, accounting for 73% and 24% of the total number of global blockchain patents, and the number of blockchain patents within the period of PCT enactment is only 1,414, which is about 3% of the total number of global blockchain patents.
(4) Patent market value: total value of more than $1.1 billion, with more patents under $30,000
Currently, the total value of patents in the global blockchain industry is $1.131 billion. Among them, the largest number of blockchain patents under $30,000 was filed, 32,800; followed by blockchain patents between $30,000 and $300,000, with a combined total of 3,810 patents filed. The smallest number of blockchain patents under $3,000,000 was filed, with 50 patents filed.
Statistical caliber: Statistics are performed according to the de-emphasis rule of one patent representative per group of simple homologous family, and any one patent with patent value in the same family is selected for display.
