At the beginning of breaking up, I found that expired or spoiled food was often thrown away. When the food looked a little stale or passed the "best edible date", I would not hesitate to throw it away.
According to the estimation of FAO, one third of the food people planted would be thrown away, because these "small flaws" were thrown away, and at the same time, a lot of food was wasted for planting and eating. Rotten food in landfills produces greenhouse gases, which causes climate change
After reading Zero Waste Life, I began to reduce the garbage produced in my life and the waste of food as much as possible: zero waste shopping: 1. Reusable environmental protection bags
I usually bring my own environmental protection bags or silicone bags when I go out, and use them to pack clean fruits and vegetables. Silicone bags can hold cakes or meat. If they are fish or seafood with strong smell, I can choose them. 2. Bulk fresh agricultural products
Supermarkets are generally repackaged, with too much plastic, so you can choose to go to local vegetable markets or bulk shops. Bulk shopping can avoid using plastic bags. Fresh food is not only healthier, but also can reduce the waste of plastic packaging compared with dry goods. 3. Choose better packaging (glass, paper or aluminum)
Compared with plastic, glass is more beautiful, highly repeatable, and paper packaging is easier to degrade. 4, if you can only choose plastic packaging, choose big bags instead of individual packaging
If we eat cereal, drink instant coffee, eat snacks, etc. separately, it seems more convenient and hygienic, but it also means that more plastic waste is produced, so we can consider replacing it with large packages and repackaging it in small bottles each time, which can save a lot of plastic use. 5. Make your own food (most raw materials can be bought in bulk and stored for a long time)
Cooking by yourself is not only cleaner and more nutritious, but also can reduce the plastic waste of take-away. It is simply a waste to order take-away packaging layer by layer at a time. Three principles of zero waste diet:
1. Avoid food packaging
Buy food directly, choose fresh local products, bring your own environmental protection bags for reuse, and you can avoid food packaging
2. Eat seasonal food
Seasonal food can avoid carbon emissions caused by road transportation, and it is more natural and delicious
3. Use existing ingredients on hand
. Whether the things in the refrigerator are about to expire can avoid the phenomenon of accidentally buying too many ingredients and reducing food waste < P > In addition, the Mediterranean diet can not only balance nutrition, but also be simple, and you can prepare vegetables for a week on weekends without thinking about what to eat every day, and avoid food waste.
