Once, the Buddha went to the Acropolis, the capital of Saruo, and lived in a lonely garden on the outskirts of the south of the city.
On this day, a young Brahmin came. Because he was dissatisfied with his brother becoming a monk with Buddha, he cursed Buddha with fierce words in front of him.
The Buddha quietly listened to the abuse and venting of the little Brahman, and then asked the little Brahman:
"Brahman! Have you ever had relatives and friends visit your home? 」
"Yes, Gotama! So what? 」
"Brahman! Have you ever prepared meals for visiting relatives and friends? 」
"Yes, Gotama! 」
"Brahman! If they don't eat the food you prepared, who will you give the food to in the end? 」
"Gotama! If they don't eat, of course, those diets are still mine. 」
"Yes, brahman! I didn't accept your rude remarks and insults when you came to me. Then who did you end up with those rude words? 」
"Gotama! Although you don't accept it, I have already given it to you. 」
"Brahman! How can you give it without my acceptance? 」
"Gotama! Then tell me, what is acceptance? What is giving? What is not accepted? What is not to pay? 」
"Brahman! If you scold me, I will turn around and scold; You are angry with me and I am angry with you; You hit me, I hit you; You hit me, I hit back, that is, you have accepted and completed your contribution. On the other hand, if you don't respond to insults; Anger responds to anger; Fists respond to fists; Respond to war with war; No acceptance, no giving. 」
"Gotama! I heard our virtuous Brahmin elder say that Tathagata, Arhat and others were scolded and insulted by others, and they were neither angry nor angry. Are you angry? 」
At this time, the Buddha replied:
"What will make a broken person upset forever?
You should know:
People who are good at self-regulation and live a just life will not be jealous.
What's more, he is a liberator who lives entirely by intelligence and wisdom!
It is a bad person and a bad thing to control anger with anger;
He who does not control anger with anger,
Win the hardest war.
Because he not only understands why the other person is angry,
You can also calm yourself down and talk about mindfulness.
Not only defeated others, but also defeated yourself.
A good doctor is one who is beneficial to both sides.
If someone thinks such a person is a fool,
That's just an ignorant man who doesn't understand Buddhism.
Not bad is better than bad; Good deeds are better than evil deeds;
Giving is better than greed; Honesty is better than lies.
Sages will not move their hearts, nor will they harm others.
But the wicked persist in hatred, but they are as hard to loosen as mountains.
A wandering heart is like a galloping horse;
A galloping horse must be controlled by a reins.
But controlling the reins of a galloping horse,
Far better than being able to control the inner voltage!
So I said that the best tuning master in the world,
Not the man who controls the horse with the reins. 」
