There really isn't a standard for a light diet, but broadly speaking there are some elements:
1. Of the three major nutrients, starch is the mainstay, protein should be low, and fats and oils should be kept to a minimum.
2. Most vegetables and fruits are in the light diet category, and fiber helps digestion rather than hinders it.
3. The method of preparation is important, e.g. congee is better than rice, chopped meats and vegetables are better than whole pieces, and stewed and steamed are better than sautéed.
