While the number of newly registered enterprises in Tianjin has been growing overall, the growth trend in recent years has been unstable, with negative growth in new registrations in 2018 as well as in 2020. In terms of enterprise closure (cancellation, suspension, closure, liquidation, etc.), Tianjin has shut down a total of approximately 1,409,000 enterprises, accounting for 49.37% of the total volume of registered enterprises. In terms of industry classification, Tianjin has the largest number of surviving enterprises in the wholesale and retail industry, with more than 560,000 enterprises. Among the top 5 industries, there are also leasing and business services, scientific research and technical services, accommodation and catering, and manufacturing. The total number of enterprises in the five major industries is about 1.097 million, accounting for 80.30% of the total number of existing enterprises.
