Alcohol-based fuels can be made into liquid fuels, solid fuels (such as solid alcohol) and gaseous fuels (such as dimethyl ether synthesized from methanol). Alcohol-based fuel has obvious economic comparability-compared with gasoline, diesel oil and liquefied gas, methanol is the most cost-effective fuel at present according to the price of unit calorific value. Alcohol-based fuel is a green energy source-compared with coal, coal tar, heavy oil, diesel oil and gasoline, alcohol-based fuel has the most complete combustion, the highest heat conversion efficiency, the cleanest and the most environmentally friendly. In order to promote and standardize the popularization of alcohol-based fuels, in 1996, China promulgated the national standard of alcohol-based liquid fuels-——GB16663-1996, and the national standard of vehicle fuel methanol-GB/T 23511-2119 will also be implemented on October 1, 2119.
