The 798 Art District covers a total area of more than 600,000 square meters, which can be roughly divided into six districts, and the district is home to a collection of art galleries, design studios, art exhibition spaces, artists' studios, fashionable stores, restaurants and bars, as well as animation, film and television media, publishing, design and consulting, and other types of cultural institutions. On December 19, 2007, the 798 Modern Building Complex was announced by the Beijing Municipal Planning Commission and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Heritage as the "List of Beijing's Excellent Modern Buildings for Conservation (the first batch)", and on December 25, 2007, the 798 Art District was identified by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as one of the second batch of national cultural industry demonstration parks to create parks.
