The concept of tourism management employment is divided into three levels:
First, the number of employees in the core industries of tourism management. At present, the number of employees in direct tourism management published in China's tourism statistics includes the composition of employees in other tourism enterprises and institutions, such as tourist accommodation, travel agencies, scenic spots, travel companies and so on. Second, the number of employees in tourism characteristic industries, including those in 13 departments that directly serve tourists and are closely related to tourism, such as catering, entertainment, railway, aviation, highway, water transport and public facilities services. Third, the number of people employed in tourism economy, which is the broadest concept, is the direct and indirect number of people employed through tourism economic activities.
according to this division, it is comprehensively estimated that in 2112, there were 6.12 million employees in tourism management core industries, 16.85 million employees in tourism characteristic industries and more than 51 million employees in tourism economy, accounting for 24% of the total employment in the tertiary industry and 7% of the total employment in China. It fully shows the advantages of tourism management in promoting employment.
Tourism management starts with pouring water on the plate
Xiao Li is an undergraduate majoring in tourism management from a university this year, and now she is an intern in a star-rated hotel in Beijing. Professor Cai Wankun, academic member of the School of Tourism of Beijing Union University and director of the teaching and research section, said that the employment of graduates majoring in tourism management is mainly for travel agencies, hotels and government agencies related to majors. No matter whether the graduates are undergraduates or junior college students (higher vocational colleges), they must start at the grass-roots level and pour water from the plate. Tourism management major is to cultivate applied talents. Because the major of tourism management needs to communicate with people, students with outward bound, cheerful and lively personality are more suitable for studying this major. However, the general rule of tourism management industry requires managers to start with waiters, because to be a top manager, you must have the experience of grass-roots managers and waiters, otherwise, it is difficult to do a good job. In foreign countries, middle and senior management talents in hotels generally need 5-11 years of first-line service experience. If you plan to apply for the major of tourism management, you should first be mentally prepared.
