Information Times: Aesthetic fashion determines the decoration trend. How do you understand the concept of space decoration?

Lian Jun: Indeed, nowadays most Chinese people like fantastic shapes, splendid stones and gorgeous colors. They design this way not for beauty, practicality and health, but for vanity and face. In fact, there are not so many so-called definitions and styles of design. In foreign countries, whether it is family decoration or commercial space, we pay attention to light decoration and heavy decoration. Hard decoration is only a means of building space layout, but mainly relies on soft decorations such as calligraphy and painting, ornaments and works of art to beautify and comfort the space. Personally, I think that works of art such as calligraphy and painting are an indispensable part of space decoration.

Design creates value

Information Times: What do you think is the significance of design in the diversified and demanding space design environment?

Lian Jun: I personally think that the significance of design lies in creating value, which is manifested in two aspects: first, good design can save value, and good design can save a lot of manpower, material resources and financial resources. For example, the Zhangshuwan Resort Hotel in Leizhou, where I implemented the design, did not go to Yunfu and other places to carry imported high-grade stone, but used local materials. Through reasonable design and matching, most of the local stones in Leizhou were used for the ground, and that's all. Secondly, design brings value and design brings effect. In fact, design should pursue the perfect balance between beauty and function, and the pleasure of living. For example, the Shanhailou Restaurant I designed, carved with hieroglyphics in cement to make sculptures, turned the originally worthless materials into lifelike works of art, which is the embodiment of the value created by design.

About the value

Good design can affect the society

Information Times: Compared with the beginning of this century, the attention of the interior design industry seems to be declining. What problems do you think exist among the current interior designers? Where does the existence value of designers come from?

Lian Jun: Many designers are obsessed with the combination and application of materials. In fact, there are many things that designers can do besides stacking materials. We can't exaggerate the value of design at will, nor can we underestimate the value of design. The primary function of design is to plan the space best. In addition to space planning, designers should also guide owners to choose works of art, handicrafts and other soft assembly decorations, and enhance the cultural flavor and artistry of the space.

a good designer can influence the society with his design. For example, the original ecological dining and living space I made, such as Four Seas Family and Maodegong Caotang, can bring pleasant physical and mental enjoyment to the citizens' food and cultural life, which is the embodiment of the designer's value.

Information Times: You can see a strong local flavor from your works, and more and more people have commented that your eco-architectural design has an "international perspective". What do you think?

Lian Jun: The national is the world's. Domestic design circles once thought that industrialization was internationalization, but what was natural and ecological was internationalization. You can't forget your ancestors by counting the classics. You can only take root in the native land, pursue the original source, pay attention to ecology and humanities, and skillfully apply the rural elements such as red bricks, water tanks, thatch and vines that were once owned by modern people to modern decoration, which is simple and natural, not abrupt, eco-friendly and fashionable.
