Dozaimen Street in the old city of Jinan is a unique flavor of the old streets and lanes, and its outstanding features are: it is a mixed business and residential old street, but also an old street with cultural connotations.
The geographic location of Houzaimen Street is very favorable. It is east of the old Lixing County Yamen, west to Qu Shui Ting Street and the Temple, Furong Street, south of the Pearl Spring De Wang Fu, north of Baihua Zhou, Daming Lake, so the Ming and Qing dynasties, mainly as a commercial street, stores, shoulder to shoulder, a bustling. Jiuhua House Restaurant is located at the east end of the street and the junction of Xianxi Lane, south of the road is a brick and stone structure of the two-storey building, for the rich merchant Du's in the early years of the Qing Guangxu opened to cook Lu cuisine "nine-turned sausage," known as Jinan. It is said that once the owner of the restaurant, Du Mou, hosted a banquet for guests, with "burnt large intestine" on the table, and the guests tasted it and praised it: the Taoists are good at refining pills, and there is the name of "Nine Turns of Elixir"; eating this dish is comparable to the elixir. In order to cater to the owner's fondness for "nine" and to praise the chef's excellent cooking skills, the guests then used the Taoist term "Nine Turns" to give the name "Nine Turns Large Intestine", meaning that the "Roasted Large Intestine" cooked at Jiu Hua House is a good example of a Taoist dish. Meaning that the "burnt large intestine" cooked by Jiuhua House, its kung fu is like the Taoist alchemy of the art as elaborate. From then on, Jiuhualou's creation of "nine-turn large intestine" became famous, as Jinan's representative dishes among the ranks of famous Lu cuisine dishes, spreading throughout the country Lu cuisine halls. The production method of the nine-turn large intestine is very delicate. When cooking, the chef should be under the material hard, with the material all, seasoning should have valuable Chinese medicine (such as sand nuts, cinnamon, cardamom, etc.). The Tongyuanlou Restaurant is located on the north side of Houzaimen Street, which was founded by Lv Zhengxing of Dongjia Town, Richeng City, in 1912. It was not only the largest restaurant on Houzaimen Street at that time, but also one of the leading restaurants in Jinan. In addition to traditional Lu dishes such as sweet and sour carp, steamed pork with lotus flower, and canned hooves, Tongyuanlou won the customers' appetites by serving a variety of noodle dishes such as pork dumplings, golden silk rolls, and silver silk rolls. In particular, the refined bushels of pork dumplings, using fresh bushels of Daming Lake and knife-cut meat filling, with good ingredients "feed" well, and creatively added to the soup meat jelly, out of the cage after the fragrance, bite a fat but not greasy. There is a pool in the backyard, which brings in pearl spring water to keep carp. Customers who choose the fish in the pool can cook it immediately, which is why it is more popular among old Jinan diners, and business is booming. In addition, the store also has a famous dish that old Jinan called "big piece" at the banquet --- Ice Sugar Elbow, which is a big piece of elbow with skin washed, plus sauce and rock sugar, put into the pot to stew, meat rotten, strong flavor, banquet! When the guests and hosts hold up a stick to each other, the skin will come off as long as they use chopsticks to gently scratch it. The restaurant quietly closed in 1950.
Qingyu Pharmacy is located in the middle of the street, north of the road, by the Yin family founded in the Qing dynasty Tongzhi Guangxu years. In addition to regular medicines, the pharmacy was especially famous for its pediatric medicine, "Sacred Conservation Dan". At that time, when a child in the old city area was sick, "if you didn't take the medicine, you would eat partridge vegetables". In the 1950s, Qingyu Pharmacy went out of business. Today, when the Chinese medicine workshop has become residential. Now its old site still has three rooms, the door on the drugstore name ink is still preserved.
Yuanxingzhai sauce garden is located east of the same yuan building, is the past Jinan's largest sauce garden, its store from the back of Zaimen Street has been extended to the middle of Zhenchi Street Zhenchi (commonly known as "Duck Bay"), occupying the back of Zaimen Street north and south of the compound, its front room **** there are seven. The strong cultural and religious atmosphere on Houzaimen Street made this old street become a temple and market in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, and a collection of churches and temples in one street.
When it comes to churches and temples on this street, the first one that should be mentioned is the Christ Church at the western end of Houzaimen Street, located on the shore of Baihuazhou Island, which adds a strong exotic flavor to the old street.
The Houzaimen Church is a small building of green bricks and gray tiles, which is simple and elegant, mirroring the Baihuazhou Island on the north side. The church was built around the 1920s. After the church was built, the American Southern Baptist clergyman John Na presided over the church affairs. As the church is located in the eastern cultural district of Quancheng, it often receives foreign Christian groups visiting Jinan, and foreign believers residing in Jinan often come here for meetings.
There are three main temples on Houzaimen Street: Bixia Palace, Fuhui Zenlin Temple, and Guandi Temple.
Bixia Palace is located in the north of Houzaimen Street Road (today's Dai Zong Street), commonly known as the "Niangniang Temple", was founded in the eleventh year of the Ming Zhengde (1563), Jiajing forty-two years (1563), the Qing Dynasty Qianlong thirty-nine years (1774) and Jiaqing sixteen years (1811) to rebuild. The temple is dedicated to Bixia Yuanjun, the god of Taishan. Fu Hui Zen Lin Yuan is located at No. 11 Hou Zai Men Street. It is said to have been built in the Tang Dynasty, and has been rebuilt many times in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
