The most common mechanical sand removal method of grit chamber is horizontal grit chamber. Horizontal grit chamber is widely used in water treatment plants because of its simple structure, high sand removal efficiency, no need of special equipment and low investment cost. However, there are also shortcomings such as low mechanization, difficult sand cleaning, high labor intensity and poor working conditions, which are being replaced by cyclone grit chambers with high mechanization, convenient operation and management, small floor space and more advantages. However, many existing water treatment plants, especially sewage treatment plants, use advection grit chamber to discharge sand and separate sand storage tanks, which have harsh working environment and high labor intensity. Therefore, many water treatment plants are actively exploring ways to improve working conditions and reduce labor intensity.
