A five-star hotel is the highest level of a "star-rated tourist hotel", which is evaluated by the National Evaluation Committee of Tourist Star Hotels established by the National Tourism Administration (hereinafter referred to as the "National Star Evaluation Committee") according to the Classification and Evaluation of Star Rating of Tourist Hotels (GB/T 14308-20 10).

Hotel star rating follows the principle of voluntary declaration by enterprises.
All tourist hotels that have been in business for more than one year in People's Republic of China (PRC) can apply for star rating. Hotels that have reached the corresponding star-rated standards after evaluation shall be awarded the corresponding star-rated certificates and signs by the star-rated agencies of national tourist hotels. The constellation is valid for three years.
