Huang Zhiqiang, born in 1922, graduated from the former National Chung Cheng Medical College in 1944 and served as a surgical resident at the former Central Hospital in Chongqing, the wartime capital. He has served as assistant professor, lecturer, associate professor, and professor of surgery at the former Chongqing University School of Medicine, the Seventh Military Medical University of the People's Liberation Army, and the Third Military Medical University, and has worked at the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Institute of Military Medical Training since 1985. Now he is also a first-class professor of the PLA General Hospital, head of the expert group, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, honorary president of Southwest Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital, and enjoys special government subsidies. Prof. Huang Zhiqiang is one of the most prestigious surgeons in China and an internationally renowned expert in hepatobiliary surgery. Over the past 60 years, he has devoted himself to the clinical, scientific research and teaching of surgery, and has made outstanding contributions to the development of surgery in China, especially hepatobiliary surgery. As early as in the 1950s, he took the lead in the epidemiological and clinicopathological study of hepatobiliary stones, and for the first time in the world, he comprehensively and systematically discussed hepatobiliary stone disease, and put forward the ideas of "intrahepatic segmental distribution of hepatic bile duct stones", "high bile duct stenosis is the main etiological factor affecting the effectiveness of surgical treatment of hepatic biliary stones", and "high biliary stricture is the main etiological factor affecting the effectiveness of surgical treatment of hepatic bile duct stones". He was the first to break through the forbidden zone of hepatic and biliary surgery, and created a series of effective surgical methods for the treatment of hepatic bile duct stones and their complications, which significantly improved the treatment effect of hepatic and biliary stone disease; he also took the theory of diagnosis and treatment of hepatic and biliary stones and technical system as the core content, and established the biliary surgery with Chinese characteristics. He has also established the international leading position of biliary surgery in China with the theory and technical system of diagnosis and treatment of liver and bile duct stones as the core content. At the same time, he has also made many achievements in the fields of liver surgery, minimally invasive surgery, pancreatic surgery, shock and multi-organ failure, which have greatly enriched the cause of surgery in China. Prof. Huang Zhiqiang has been practicing medicine for 60 years and has saved the lives of countless patients with his holy heart and benevolence. His profound knowledge, exquisite skills and rich experience have made him particularly happy to meet the challenges from difficult diseases and complex surgeries, and solved a lot of clinical problems.

Based on his clinical practice and experimental research work, Prof. Huang Zhiqiang has published a large number of treatises and reviews with important academic value. He has published more than 220 academic papers and edited 16 books including Academic Surgery, Biliary Surgery, Liver Surgery, Fundamentals of Abdominal Surgery, Huang Zhiqiang's Biliary Surgery, Hepatic Surgery, Contemporary Biliary Surgery and Huang Zhiqiang's Biliary Surgery. Surgery of the Biliary Tract," and 16 other monographs, which are regarded as classic monographs in the field of surgery, teaching and influencing the growth of several generations of surgeons in China. He has received more than 40 awards for various achievements, including one first prize for national scientific and technological progress, one book prize for the National Science Congress, and one first prize and four second prizes for army scientific and technological progress. He was honored as an excellent teacher of the whole army by the third headquarters of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), and the General Logistics Department honored him as a "famous teacher of the generation" in science and technology.
