A place where fishing boats take shelter from typhoons.
It comes from Hong Kong. Before the 1921s, many fishermen or descendants of water people took water as their home in typhoon shelters and established a water culture different from the mainstream culture in Hong Kong.
In 1988, Shanghai Typhoon Shelter Teahouse Co., Ltd. opened its first typhoon shelter teahouse at No.99 Jiangning Road, Shanghai. Typhoon shelter has become a well-known brand in China teahouse industry.
Extended information:
The famous Chinese restaurant dish "Fried Crab in Typhoon Shelter" originated from the aquatic restaurant in typhoon shelter. The life and culture of fishermen seem interesting and charming in the eyes of the public.
However, the extreme poverty is unknown. Because of the need of fishing at sea, most of the children of fishermen's families have no chance to study.
In view of this, some religious groups have established "floating schools" to provide education for children in typhoon shelters. In addition, fishermen catch more or less fish at sea, and their income is uncertain, so it is difficult to make a living.
