Mao Zedong's "eight-treasure rice" is not a high-grade authentic eight-treasure rice composed of assorted fruits, preserved fruits, red dates, peanuts, lotus seeds, glutinous rice, sugar and lard, but a "eight-treasure rice" that is often eaten on the Long March by cooking rice, millet, corn, bean dregs, mung beans, red beans, soybeans and Mi Dou together. In those hard years, it was after eating this kind of "eight-treasure rice" that Mao Zedong got his feelings. Together with the "Long March Chicken", he traveled from Jinggangshan and Changzheng Road to Yan 'an, Northwest Slope and Zhongnanhai.
What is the "Long March Chicken"? During the Long March of the Red Army, life was very hard. There is no oil, salt, sauce and vinegar, and chicken, duck and fish are rare. Improve your life once in a while, either lacking oil or salt. Stewed chicken can't find a suitable side dish, and potatoes, radishes and eggplant are often cooked together. Mao Zedong wittily named this dish "Long March Chicken". Mao Zedong, a native of Hunan Province, loves to eat chili and stir-fry chili with lobster sauce. He eats it almost every day, and he can't eat it without Chili.
Another feature of Mao Zedong's diet is that he likes to eat braised pork, and he wants to eat fat meat. He said, "Fat meat can nourish the brain". /kloc-in the spring of 0/929, the Red Fourth Front Army moved to Ruijin, bought some pigs and killed the New Year. A bowl was distributed to every cadre soldier. At that time, the officers and men of the Red Army were consistent. As soon as some soldiers saw that the bowl was full of fat, they immediately complained to the quartermaster about unfair distribution. The quartermaster explained: "Cadres March and fight together during the day, work at night, and eat lean meat to replenish their brains." Just then, Mao Zedong came. He poured lean meat into the pot, filled a bowl of fat, and said with a smile, "Comrades, fat fills the brain."
After the founding of New China, Mao Zedong still lived a very simple life and still loved to eat braised pork. Back in Shaoshan, he paid for pigs and invited the whole village to "eat" braised pork. The whole village is as happy as Chinese New Year.
