Membership Day time
The specific activities and time points of this membership day are as follows. Personally, I think the most focused activity is actually this one from No.4, starting from May 11, booking Marriott Calendar Room through Marriott flagship store on Flying Pig, extra 2,000+ bonus points will be awarded.
This kind of points-based activity is actually proper price discrimination, with the same logic as KFC and Golden Arches coupons.
It can be very good to distinguish between the so-called "poor people" who are willing to pay the time cost to search for information about the offer and the so-called "rich people" who don't care much about the offer and are willing to go directly to the store to buy, so that both types of consumers can pay the highest price they are willing to pay, thus minimizing the consumer surplus and maximizing the profit of the enterprise.
The so-called 'poor' and 'rich' here do not simply refer to the economic situation, but also to the high and low willingness of consumers to pay for the same product.
Activities Explained
You pay attention to points, and naturally you can earn a lot of points through points activities every time you stay, whereas if you don't pay attention to points and don't sign up for activities, you often can't earn bonus points by booking directly.
I
This 2,000 points may not seem like much, but the points activity should definitely be stacked and looked at together.
Marriott currently has another campaign online that earns an additional 2,000 bonus points per stay from the second stay; then add the bonus points per stay for Platinum members (500-1,000 bonus points depending on the brand; then add the points earned per stay.
Getting 5,000 points for one hotel stay should not be a big problem. You know, the lowest rated (CAT1) Marriott hotels can be redeemed for one night with 7,500 points.
And according to the value of points, Marriott points are worth 550 RMB per 10,000, I think, and in this event Marriott's calendar rooms, there are many hotels as little as 3, 4 or 5 hundred.
If you're a new user, you can also stack Marriott's Platinum Challenge. Taobao 88VIP and Marriott's Platinum Challenge are always online.
Stay 8 nights in 120 days and you're a Marriott Platinum.
Of course, this is only available to new users. It'll be a great time to get your foot in the door with Marriott - after all, this Platinum membership will last until February 2022, after all.
With Platinum, you'll have breakfast, treatment and room upgrades for future stays at Marriott.
Or, for those who don't want to pick for nothing, an Offer of two-for-one stay for newcomers is fine.
So, are there pitfalls in this event? Indeed there are.
The rules say you have to be a successfully registered Marriott member through Taobao/Tmall/Flying Pig to participate in the event.
I checked with the ladies at Porcupine, and they do have a backend that monitors this segment of users.
But it doesn't matter if you didn't register through Taobao/Tmall/Flying Pig, the answer they gave was that you can go and register another one through Taobao/Tmall/Flying Pig, and then call Marriott Rewards customer service and ask to merge it with your previous account.
This way, the system will be able to tell later that you are a successful Marriott member registered through Taobao/Tmall/Flying Pig.
Also, you need to pay attention to the timing of the event.
This bonus points per stay from Flying Pig is for bookings made from May 11th, and the check-in must be before June 7th. If you want to keep dropping Marriott's Q1 own event, you'll need to sign up first.
Meanwhile, the deadline for signing up is May 31, and the check-in deadline is June 14th. And it's only from the second stay that the 2,000 bonus points start.
Both campaigns are per stay, and by per stay, I mean Stay, which means you actually count as one stay at the same hotel, no matter how many consecutive nights you stay. So staying one night at a time would certainly maximize the benefits.
Also, the calendar room rate booked for the 2,000-points giveaway starting May 11 is not the lowest rate, but a separate points-giving rate that will be a hair more expensive than the lowest rate. You can't see that yet, you'll see it then, and it's actually a possible pitfall point.
And, a lot of times calendar rooms aren't really as cheap as the vouchers, and while the vouchers don't have SNPs, cheap is king for lazy people, and the points goddammit are just numbers.
For example, I went to stay at Le Meridien Suzhou Bay on May 1, and the price with the voucher was 688+200 a night, including breakfast. But on the calendar I saw it was going to be 1500+ a night, so I thought it was super profitable.
By the way, this hotel is nice, it's right by Taihu Lake, very comfortable for vacation.
Of course, there are also vouchers that are more expensive than the calendar room, for example, yesterday I already thought that 699 for 2 nights at Le Meridien Hangzhou was super cheap, but someone left me a message saying that the price on the calendar was just 300 a night.
In fact, how to say it, the room coupon is to buy a promise, anyway, not about the refundable, come across a good price you just hoard. When useful by the way check the price of the calendar, cheaper you return on the line. Of course, odds are it will be more expensive.
Additionally, if you have the time, there's a question-and-answer point-scoring event tomorrow night, so you can go and have some fun too. The quiz is available on the Marriott Traveler WeChat app at 8 p.m. on May 8th.
The general idea is that those who get all the questions right will get points, and those who don't get the questions right will get a few points.
And the other suite half-price (current occupancy Platinum Titanium basically can upgrade suites, has been grabbed and run, as well as booking 20% off + $1 breakfast (currently always online activities, I think it is not very meaningful, can be ignored.
How to say it, I would think Marriott's first Membership Day is a good start, and an even better one to look forward to (and then once a month in the future to get it going.
Room vouchers are good for hoarding and then seeing when it's the right time to go, and it's okay if you don't get a chance to return them.
Calendar rooms, on the other hand, are basically just for firm dates.
It's hard to talk about who's better or worse, so compare more.
