Qiqihar Institute of Engineering, formerly known as Heavy Machine Tool Manufacturing Institute of Qiqihar No.1 Machine Tool Plant, was established in 1958. Before the Cultural Revolution, six-year (amateur) undergraduate education and four-year (amateur) junior college education were implemented, during which they were renamed "July 21st" Workers' University of Qiqihar No.1 Machine Tool Plant and Workers' Electromechanical College of Qiqihar No.1 Machine Tool Plant. 1993 the school signed an economic separation contract with enterprises to support the corporatization of state-owned enterprises, becoming the first state-owned school-enterprise separation model in China and renamed Heilongjiang East Asia University.
