Maoming County has successively belonged to the seventh administrative region, the thirteenth administrative region, Gao Lei Road and Lu Nan Road. Shortly after the founding of the People's Republic of China, Maoming City was established, and most of the remaining areas of Maoming County and Xinyi County were changed to Gaozhou County (later separated from Xinyi); 1993 County-level city was established in Gaozhou. 12 Gaozhou is a famous historical and cultural city in Guangdong Province, the birthplace of Theory of Three Represents theory, the hometown of folk art (puppets) in China (Gaozhou puppet show was named as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage) and the Couplet Cultural City in China.
